Have you ever had a home pregnancy test be wrong? I havent both of my kids, so far, it said I was, using an ept test, it said I was before the doctors test even did. What is your experience with this?

False negatives are more common than false positives. I have never had a positive early home test with any of my pregnancies except this last one and that was one of the ones that can test before your period is even late. I have really long cycles & find I won't test positive until I am a solid 10 days late. Even the urine tests the doctors use (which is really the same test you can buy OTC) I have to be pretty late. A blood test will be positive for me though even early.

I took two epts one with my first, which was a month into the pregnancy and one with my daughter which was 3 weeks into it. With my son I took an ept and it said positive, when I went to the doctor, their test said negative..but then a week later I went back and it said positive...weird..Really, false negatives are more common? I never knew that...

It's just a matter of how quickly the hormone builds to detectable levels in your body. As I understand it the levels of hCG doubles daily but some women just start from a higher level than others. So the false negatives are really just not enough hormone to detect yet. Home tests have really come a long way over the years. I remember the first one I took with my son's pregnancy back in 1988. It was this huge box, there was a stand to hold a test tube, a cup to catch the urine and two liquids you had to mix into it in a specific order after X# of minutes. If the test was negative it'd stay looking like urine, if it was positive there'd be a bull's eye looking pattern when you looked at the bottom of the test tube. Ya needed a degree in chemistry to master those tests!

lol! If there is a false negative, then it is usually in the really early stages right?

I got pregnant only twice, and both of time I did home pregnancy test.Yes they are accurate but some times it shows the result negative, which has happened with one of my friend. In my first pregnancy,I did the result and it came out positive and it was accurate, then In my second one I did it once it came out negative(cause I did it too early)but when I did it again it came out positive, which was accurate. The most accurate result comes from blood test, but home pregnancy test are most of the time accurate and reliable.

yes, I agree both times I was pregnant were the only times I recieved a positive. Also, with my first I did a home test and it said positive I went to the doctor and theirs said negative, but a month later I went back and I was pregnant! I thought it was weird that a home one was more accurate than the doctors one.

I was told that you can't get a false positive, but not sure if that is right. I only ever did one home pregnancy test, which came up positive. Then I went to the doctors and did a test there just to make sure it was right, just incase you can get a false positive. I was right though as I was pregnant. I had one test at the doctors with another pregnancy that came up with a positive but it wasn't very clear, so he told me to come back in a week to do another one. That week went so slow for me, when I went back it came back with a strong positive.
