Can you control PMS?

My friend asked me once, why aren't you a real bag during your time of the month like I am. I said because I control it. She said there was no way she could control her PMS and said they maybe I didn't really have it if I felt I could control it. Do you think PMS can be controlled?

As far as some of the physical aspects, you can diet and exercise properly and that will help, but as far as the mood behavior, that is a symptom of your fluctuating hormones. That's not something anyone can control, so you probably just don't have as bad of a case as other people.

I like what you said: yes that could very well be true that I didn't have it as bad as most people! My friend was hard to take at her time of the month. It was so bad sometimes that I would just say call me in a few days when you are yourself again. I mean even with PMS should your friends and family have to put up with the abuse. Unless not everyone takes it out on the people close to them. What do you think about that.

You cannot control your moods. You can control what you eat and drink, and do more exercise. It might be that what you eat helps you overcome your pms, but that might not be for everyone. You might have a mild case.

My husband said he could control it by telling me to get out! (he was joking) =p I don't feel that I can control my PMS. My period causes me a lot of pain and exhaustion, and so it is hard for me to act normally. Even not considering the hormone-caused mood swings, I would still be hard to live with just because I was so physically miserable! So what do you do to control your PMS? Could you share your secrets?

Not every one has PMS with the same severity. And yes many things can be done to control it . Diet, exercise, and medications are just some ways. Everyone should work with their doctor to manage this . Don't let your doctor ignore you on this .

PMS is different for every woman. Some women (like yourself) have symptoms, but they're more easily controlled than others. Some women only have physical symptoms, some have only emotional/mental, and some have all or none. It depends on your body and how you react to the changing, progesterone, serotonin, and endorphin levels, to name a few. So while your friend may feel like an alien invaded her body, you may still feel like yourself, just different.

No, not only have I been unsuccessful in controlling it - diet, exercise, meds, sometimes I don't even realize it until others point it out to me.
