There are a host of used materials that you can incorporate into your garden design. Here are some ideas for reusing some things as something different. 1. Use old windows as windscreens to protect small seedlings and other delicate plants. Screw stakes into the sides of the frame and them place them into the ground until the windows bottom edge is just above the soil. 2. Make a concrete garden sphere by using a glass ball lamp shade as the mold. Fill the shade with wet cement and when it dries , put the whole thing in a paper sack and break the glass off with a hammer. 3. Make pathways out of broken pieces found in the scrap bin at the local marble and granite counter top shop. 4. Salvage old doors and windows to make a great vintage planting box. If you use your imagination you can come up with many great ideas to reuse items that you would have thought to throw away before. There are a ton of things to be done with old shutters!! How about cutting a hole in the seat of an old wooden chair and making a plant stand!

I'm using some old plastic yogurt cups to grow herbs. They are seedlings at the moment, but they are growing nicely. The plants are unaware that their homes are actually reclaimed rubbish. I made three tiny drainage holes in the bottom of each yogurt cup to drain excess water.
