Racism- What do you think about it? Do you think it still exists?...

As an individual from a mixed background and a person who generally does not identify with one ethnic group or another- I often find myself in these situations where you can definitely see both sides of the coin. In my experience I have come across many individuals who tend to think that racism for all intense purposes doesn't exist anymore. I would like to know if any one else out there thinks that way and if so, can you explain why you do?

For me it still definately doesn exist. The only thing probably is that it is not being heard more often these days thru media. If we look around ourselves in our day to day life..v'll notice racism everywhere...sometimes its thru color....or sometimes thru status ...or even physical appearence for that matter. Sadly i find it to be true... that racism still exists

Thank you for your comment- I think you pointed out something that is of great importance. I think many times we tend to think very rigidly and that racism is this thing that only pertains to race/skin color. Your absolutely right. Racism runs the gammut. It goes down from skin pigmentation to your socio-economic status. It affects us all on every level. Thank you for your comments!

It does exist sad but true I totally hate racism, I think im a racist to racial people. The world is free to choose who you like well most of the world. Honestly i think mixed people are much good looking anyway, not saying that all one race people arent good looking but higer percent to the mixed, look at hispanics the have all races in one and I dont need to go on how beautiful th majority are. in my counrty the majority of racial people are those of the coutry sides and not that educated or totally country.

Racism still exists in huge amounts. If not in western countries then in countries like India and other south Asian countries racism are so much prevalent. It is not known by many people but racism still exists.

I think racism is very bad. Even though I don't know many racists... or any at all, we still think its funny to make racist jokes. EVen some of the other races love to hear those jokes, you'd be suprised. But I think its also offensive, and you have to be careful what you say and do. But yes, I frown upon racism.

Sadly, racism is still exists. Even here where I love, especially in the rural areas, there are still people out there who think that they are more superior than others just because they have a different skin color. I think we're still a long way from becoming a racism-free world.

actually, it still exist, though not as open as it was before....racists are more subtle these days but the act still prevails....some people still believe that some races shouldnt be around here on earth and some people believe that specific races are more superior than others...this practice is being fought from all directions but i dont think this will be eradicated...so long as mankind hasnt learned that he/she has an obligation to love his/her fellow creature, racism will never be gone from this planet...

Yes, it still exists. Not only it happens in developing countries but also it still exists in developed countries. Racism is more subtle in developed countries than in developing countries because at least, people regardless what backgrounds they are (i.e., rich, poor, majority, minority, black, white, native, non-native, etc) must abide the laws in developed countries. We can take an example of Paris Hilton. No one is above the law in the developed countries. But please don't get me wrong here. I don't say that there are no flaws with regard to the laws in developed countries. Yes, they still have flaws in its implementation.

Racism does still exist and I know this just in my own family and the way they talk . My sister and I have always been amazed at the fact that neither of us is racist or prejudiced because both of our parents are like this ( although they wouldn't admit it ) . My mother was horrified when my niece started seeing someone who was a different color and was really upset with my sister that she didn't see anything wrong with this . I have never seen the difference what matter what color one is or what shape or size one is as we are all the same inside and one is missing out on great friendships when worrying what someone looks like rather then who they are .

yes, i think that racism still exists today, and i think it's even more dangerous because people are getting more dangerous, smarter, sly...some people raise whole families to be racists, in an era of tolerance and acceptance. that is why i think racism is more dangerous because it still exists in a time when it should have been eradicated already.

Sadly, I do think that racism is still very much alive and well in our world. It is a shame that people still feel that racism is something that they have to believe in. I think that we should not have racism in the world, we are all people no matter the color of our skin. I know that I will never see a perfect world, where everyone gets along with everyone else and does not pick on certain races. But, it would be a nice thing.

I too am of mixed background and I can clearly rememeber how hard it was for me in school. When I hung out with other groups, people would often question my race and say "why don't you hang out with your own kind!" Honestly I hated it, it came to the point where I didn't want to go to school anymore! But then I realized that it really shouldn't matter! Sadly, racism still does exist in our world and I don't see a change coming anytime soon. But don't let it discourage you! Be yourself and if anyone can't accept it, then they aren't worth being a part of your life.

Rather than looking at it as Racism, I would rather look at the broder picture of Discrimination. Because it does exists everywhere..and in all fields. Whether its gender based, or faith based or color based..you see it everywhere. I don't agree with anyone when they say that racism for that matter discrimination does not exists.

I think that racism is very much alive. Of course, racism still exist in today's society. It is not like in the sixties, but some people will never change. This is the way some people were raised and were not taught any different. Personally, I am not racist. I think we are all equal.

Considering Iam a stay home mom I watch the day time talk shows and YES sadily racism does still exist. Ihave seen things on these talk shows that makes me sick to my stomach. I am as white as white can be and so is my husband and kids but I will never tell my kids that they cant play with someone because they are black or asian. We have neighbors who are black that my kids play with and I encourage them to play with them. My oldest daughter has a friend in school who is black and a friend who is Asian as well. I firmly believe that variety is the spice of life and I want my kids to respect everyone no matter what there color, race, disease, or creed.

It still exists. It has also been exploited. Feeling superior and better than the other group is not the only form of racism. Feeling overwhelmed by their numbers is another form of racism. Having them on the tv all the time and on Tv dramas being the bosses is racist. You have to see a person as an individual not as representing his ethnic group. So a man has almost black skin, he is obviously Negro *the old term* but he may be clumsy, cannot shot a basketball, and certainly cannot sing. A woman has blond hair, green eyes, and is tall, but she may not be a new Nazi, is very kind and considerate and not bossy. You should not encourage racism. One way in which it has been encouraged is by asking people of a certain ethnic group to emigrate to your country and give you special treatment because you want to change the structure and population diversity, religion, etc. of your country not so that you need people for jobs or for those of that race who already have families here, or you need more people.
