How Often?

How often do you actually get down on your knees when you pray to the Lord? I have been doing this a lot lately. I listen to Dr Charles Stanley's message every week and he was talking about this a couple of weeks ago. If you honestly think about it, we are talking to this awesome, holy, omnipotent, almighty, everlasting God. We should be on our knees in His presence. Of course there are many times when you can't get on your knees when you pray. I talk to God a lot while I'm driving, working, when I wake up during the night, etc. But there is something so special and powerful when you are on your knees. There is this peace that comes over you. We are strongest when we are on our knees. So true! God is so good to all of us...ALL the time! When I think about how awesome His love is for us, I get tears in my eyes...knowing that I'm a sinner and He loves me anyway! I can never begin to imagine how much God loves me! He has blessed me beyond measure and I know I can depend on Him. He has never let me down and He never will! God is so good...ALL the time!

I think getting on your knees is symbolic of humbling yourself before God and realizing that He's so much bigger than you. I don't do this often, but there are times that I feel like the only way that I should be praying at that time is either on my knees or flat on my face. It always helps me understand how awesome God is when this happens.

We ought to be on our knees more than we like to admit. We can be thankful that God , the Almighty hears us & knows the heart of man. He is a God hearing, and God answering God! Continue to hold fast the Faith!

Thank you Star! We need to humble ourselves more before the Lord. I have a few posts from people who are physically unable to get on their knees and God understands that. That is just one way we can show our humbleness to the Lord. Thanks for your response! God bless.

to be frank with you i think we do underrate the power of GOD and how mighty he is. At times i feel too weak to get up to pray and i wouldn't bulge if i was told to stand up, connect to the internet and comment on post on mylot. I think that as got to change for me. The sooner we realize that GOD gives us the strength to wake up each day i think he deserves our respect and humbleness. I think i am going to start kneeling down again when i want to pray cause i heard a pastor say its a very good thing and means a total submission to GOD

AMEN fellow! Yes, we do sometimes underrate the awesome power of God and Who He really is. We need to thank Him every day for His faithfulness. He gives us the strength to get up every morning, to face a new day...so many, many things! He deserves our thanks and our praise! God bless!

I don't get on my knees because of my bad leg. If I try I will have a pain so bad that I can't pray. I stop what I am doing til the pain goes away. But I do put my hands together and bow my head. I figure when I do finally get to meet the Lord. He will have fixed my leg. I should have no problem on my knees then.

I'm sorry you have a bad leg. God totally understands! It is so great that you put your hands together and bow your head. As I said in another post, it is what is in your heart that truly matters. God bless you!

I must admit I don't get on my knees often enough - this is a good reminder to me that I should and I really need to get into the habit of doing it.

I don't do it enough either. I am so busy sometimes and get tired and go to bed...then I start to pray and sometimes fall asleep while I'm praying. I have asked the Lord to help me to make time to spend alone with Him...to pray and to listen. It is so very important. God bless you!

Oh, I have done that also, fallen asleep while praying but you know what, some of the best nights sleep ever have been when I've done that. I guess God knows if I fall asleep while doing the most important thing in my life I must be tired and need a good sleep. It is such a blessing that God knows our needs even when we don't admit to them.

Yes, God is good...ALL the time!! My arthritis hips dont' like me getting on my knees but I do sometimes. God is such an awesome God that we need to be even lying prostrate on the floor and still not worthy to be in His presence. But thank the Good Lord for loving us anyway even if we are not worthy. PTL!

I like Charles Stanley too. He seems to always speak to my heart. I rarely ever get on my knees and hadn't thought about it but he's right. I should be on my knees when I am praying. God has been very good to me and my family. We have been going through some rough times lately and I find myself complaining even though I know that I shouldn't. I thank God and then a little while later I'm whining about something again. I should do better.

That is so good, Evan. Sometimes our prayers can be so selfesh. We all need to remember to pray for others as well as ourselves. God bless you!

I think it was a long time since I really got down in my knees to pray. Like you, I pray to God when I'm doing chores. I do not know why right now, things have been so hard for me to pray. I really feel bad not being able to do it. I know how much He has been good to me. Sometimes I feel that I only pray to Him when I want Him to help me out in a situation. I feel so ashamed. I hope that I can be able to make it up to Him.

I think we all tend to do that at times. You most certainly aren't alone in that! We are so busy and it seems like we don't have the time to pray the way we should. I know. But you realized that you need to pray more just as I do as well. We need to pray to God in all situations and always be sure to thank Him for all He has done for us. God bless you.

Truthfully I only get on my knees during worship. It usually it is when I worship Him either Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. As for prayer, I am probably low in that area,( but YHVH is working with me on that). I don't have to be on my knees, because sometimes I am in the car, at the store, or a great time is when I am witnessing to someone.

i don't do it all the time, but whenever i strongly feel his presence (like while worshipping) i usually end up on my knees, not because i know i'm "supposed" but because i just know and feel that i need to because i am not worthy. i don't know how, but it just comes to me and i just feel like i need to be on my knees! --- he's the Lover of my soul!

I have done that very few times, i think in the toughest time of my life. But I regularly pray, even while walking, travelling. I can commune to God anytime because he is omnipresent. I believe God is good to us! And He will never change.

Although kneeling is our gesture of prayer..There were other gestures acceptable..Like standing with hands raised..or kneeling and sitting back on ones heels..It's important to realize ..that God is looking at our hearts when we pray ..not our knees..and some folks simply don't have the knees for kneeling but they have the heart to pray.

I mean no offense, but, the creator has given us the tools, it is for us to fend for ourselves rather than really disturb him (or her if you so choose). I think that we must face each and every problem with a brave front, use our abilities, our minds and bodies in a proper way to surmount or face difficulties and no go crying to the creator every time something goes wrong. Do we really like a child that comes crying to us every time it face a small problem? I will repeat something that I said in another discussion, but in a different way, if 'God' has punished my enemies, then from my enemies point of view, 'God' has forsaken them, awarded punishment on them, maybe, he as been unjust to them. So are those enemies the lesser children of 'God', does that make God more partial to me just because I bother him more? Live your life, reap the fruits or bear the consequences of your actions, don't attribute human fallacies on the creator. Life's Lovely! Love & Live Life!

No offense taken. I believe prayer to be very powerful. Plus it is so awesome to just talk to our Heavenly Father. God bless.

I pray on my knees at church. At home I sometimes pray on my knees. However, my prayers seem to have gotten longer and my left knee has been giving me problems the last couple of years so I sit down and have my chat with God. It is not uncommon for me to be in prayer for 30 or 40 minutes. I am like you in that I often pray while I am driving by myself or in my office at work. At those time of course I don't kneel down either.

I must admit, I haven't literally got down on my knees to pray to God that often. Whenever I feel like praying or communing with God; whether I'm in a vehicle, on the way to work, or simply walking or sitting in the office; I close my eyes and try to place myself in His presence. I even sing a song of praise, usually humming it to myself, when I'm on the streets; specially in times when I or my family is in dire need either financially or if someone is sick or in danger. Back when I was still single, I regularly visit the adoration chapel near our house. This is one of the things that I miss doing nowadays.

I don't. I have a very hard time with believing that prayer even works. I can cite example, after example, after example, of when prayer has done nothing, or when things only got worse. I am so discouraged and depressed, I really can't bring myself to pray at all now.

I'm sorry you feel that way. God does hear every prayer and He does answer them. Sometimes we don't like His answer, but we must remember that He knows what is best for us. I've prayed at times and didn't like God's answer. I was sure I knew what I needed and God did not grant it to me. But I know now that He was working in me and I had to go thru that difficult situation for me to grow and to realize how much I really need Him. Prayer is very powerful. We need to realize that God will not give us what is not in our best interest even though we think we just know for sure that we need it. Sometimes He does allow us to suffer because then we become stronger and depend on Him. Plus, when we suffer, we can help others who suffer too because we know what they are going thru and how they feel. God bless.

I'm so sorry you are going thru so much, nonew! I'm not even going to pretend I know how you are feeling or what you are experiencing. But God does know and He wants to help you. I don't know why God allows some to suffer more than others. I do know that God does see us thru difficult times. He never promised any of us an easy life by any means. I just want you to know that God loves you and He wants you to know Him personally. He can and will help you. You just have to trust Him. He is good. I pray that things will get better for you! God bless you.

Every time I pray, and things don't get better (and sometimes they actually get worse), I get increasingly depressed. I don't need more of that. Where was God when all of that stuff happened to me? I prayed a lot then, and look where it got me! Mind you, I do pray, but I don't hold out any real hope for it, and I don't have any real trust in it that it works. The only reason why I pray is because I don't know what else to do, not that I believe in it. Many times when I thought things were an answer to prayer, I would only get more disappointment, discouragement, and frustration. I see prayer as often having been a huge let-down. I don't need more of that. I can't take more of that. Sorry to burst your bubble.
