Someone came to the door late last night - I was afraid to open it. Would you?

Last night at about 8:30 a man came to the door and wanted us to sign a petition. He said he was from the "Indendendant Party" and needed signatures to get the candidates names on the ballots. It was almost dark out - and I must say we were afraid to open the door. My friend and I (both older women) spoke to him through the kitchen window and said we weren't going to open the door. He said "open it alittle and I will slid the papers in". We still said - "sorry but no".
I don't know if we are getting paranoid but there is so much craziness in the world we were afraid to open the door.
What would you have done?

To be honest 8.30 at night is quite unsociable, why couldn't he have called round earlier? I understand why people don't call round between 9 and 5 office working hours as most people are at work or out, but 6 or 7 in the evening is ok but not 8.30. If it's really important he'd come back, but don't tell him when you're in or out, just in case, I'm a firm believer of suspect the worse, that way you protect yourself, I'm glad you didn't open the door my friend.

I probably would have done the same as you did. You are not paranoid you are smart. Its sad but true, these days, you really have to be extra careful. I remember when I was a child no one really locked their doors or thought so much about safety, but these days its almost a requirement.

yes ofcouse when some stranger comes late at night we have to be afraid. And take care of it
