Did you know this about PayPal?

Monday, I received a message from PayPal that my account had been limited and to login immediately to resolve the issue. Thinking this was a scam, I did not click the link in the Email, but manually typed PayPal URL into my browser in order to report it to PayPal security. T my surprise, it was not a scam, but real. Apparently, over the weekend, a third party tried unsuccessfully to access my paypal account. In order to re-activate my account, I had to change my password and security question, and verify my location. Today I received a follow up phone call from PayPal security. They wanted my feedback about how the message I got was received, and whether or not I took action by clicking the link from the email. I advised them that I never click links from PayPal unless I have changed my information and I am expecting a verification link from them. I was praised for not clicking the link, and the representative told me I would have been advised to manually enter https://www.paypal.com into my browser, in any case. If you are wondering why I am telling you all this, it is because I have read discussions where the integrity of PayPal has come into question. I just wanted everyone to know what lengths paypal will go to to protect its clients.

Thanks for letting us know, its always a good thing to hear. I also had this happen to me about 6 months ago, and I have to verify and reset things too. It is a good thing to know that paypal protects its clients because you never see the money since it is a virtiual account, and you never want anything to happen to your money. Thanks again for letting everyone know.

Yes I had a third party try to access my paypal account and I also received an email. Paypal was very thorough and did the right thing by me and helped with any questions I had, I find them very good indeed!

I really didn't know! Thanks for sharing it with me:) But one thing I don't get is why did they put a link at all! If we are advised to type the address manually, they can make us do so by NOT giving any link. No? And thanks again :)

Yep, definitely...we have to becarefull with all website that has our personal information espcially when it comes to amount of money. I've been regularly forward all the spam in the name of paypal to paypal themself so they can take more action to protect us. I wonder how the third party ever got your information to your paypal account ??? Anyway, I've never let big amount stay in my paypal account due to my bad experience with them. So whenever I got money transffered to my paypal account whether from myself nor from people I know, I'll immediately spend it and leave only about 5 bucks. Better safe than sorry.... And thanks for sharing this information !!!

I remember that paypal were very careful about letting me have an account. When I changed my email address they rang me too. I have used them for 3 years now and no problems

Scary to know a third party tried to access your pay pal account, but good to know that they advised you of this situation. And then followed up with you too.

Holy crap I didn't know that. That actually makes me feel a lot better though knowing that they will go that extra mile to make sure what money I do have in that account is safe. I always worry about sites like that expecially since its tied into my bank account. I'm always afraid someone can get in there and maybe steal from me but knowing that they will inform me if someone tries makes me feel a lot better. Its nice to know the security of a site expecially one that has my money in it.

I am glad you went to the browser and typed it in because my identity was stolen from answering to an email that I thought was from paypal. Alway be careful and as a tip when it is from paypal they will always have your fist and last name in the email. Everyone please be careful. Everything is straight now but I have to always keep a constant watch.

I've never had problems with PayPal. Someone accessed my account and bought $90 worth of Itunes. We immediately called PayPal and the funds were put back into my bank account within the week. They are very good about taking care of their customers.

It's nice that you actually got a real email about someone trying to get into your account. I get the scam emails about my account all of the time and it is irritating. I forward them to Paypal when I get them so that they can deal with the offending people and copycat sites.

I've dealt with Paypal for quite a while now, and I too have read discussions where people have questioned their integrity. I've never had any issues with my account with them, but when I first joined mylot, I did have issues with not being able to change the address I entered, but Paypal allowed me to delete my account and open another one. They were helpful from start to finish. I haven't had any problems since. I think it's wonderful that you'd share your experiences with Paypal here with all of us. If it erases the doubts of one person, then it's a job well done!

I am going to make a IRC bot so PayPal can have a mate. I will call it PayPalPal.

the entire episode involving you and paypal-modus operandi and a suspecting scam makes me jittery and suspicious about future transaction with them.
