I wash my bed sheets once a week and I use hot water because I heard that will kill any germs that might be living. I also use alittle bleach too. I dont use hot water on my other laundry only my sheets. So tell me do you use hot water when your washing your bed sheets?

I try to wash our sheets once a week and I also wash them in hot water because yeah that is the only way to kill germs. I don't use bleach but that is a good idea.

although i know that to wash laundry in hot water will reamove the dirt faster and quicker, i never thought that it will be a good help also in getting rid of the undesirable germs. i use cold water ony in washing my clothes and bed sheets also receive the same treatment. i thought all this time that it is sufficient to wash them using bleach and anti germicidal detergents. by the way, i still hand wash all of my laundry, be they beddings or the clothes that we wear. i wash bed sheets separately of course, they are bulky and really heavy when wet.

So bleach is bad to use? Or is because of your health?

I use to wash all my bedding and undergarments in hot water until about 10 years ago.....a G/F of mine had a very long and tiresome bout with head lice.....after doing her house, from top to bottom about 20 times in the run of 3-4 mnths,we called the health department to get some advice on what to do.....we would get the house lice free for about 5 days and than they'd be back.....the first thing the lady asked us was how we were washing the clothing and we told her in hot water and bleach.....NO!She said, the hot water allows the nits and any viral germ on the clothing live.....it actually incubates them.....ever since than,I have used cold water.....like my mother use to argue with me all the time.....when you get sick, you have a virus, which in turn is a living form of bacteria and needs heat to live.......

usually, i change my bed sheets weekly, too. but i do not use hot water. we do not have this facility at home wherein one can choose to run hot water anytime. i use bleach just like you. i always use that using the anti germicidal type of detergent will already do the trick. then the bleach are germ busters, too. besides this, i always hang them to dry at the site where they are at best exposure to the sun. the ultra violet rays will do worst to the germs than whatever i used to clean the bed sheets.

TerryZ, like you I wash my bed sheets once a week. I use hot water to wash them as well. But I also have to use hot water to wash my husbands clothes because of where he works. He works in a warehouse so his clothes get quite filthy so the only way to get them really clean is to use hot water.

I use hot water when washing my sheets and when washing my whites and towels. The heat helps remove oils and grime that you perspire during the day. I would use hot water on my colors too, if it didn't fade them so bad, so for them I use color safe bleach.

We use cold water and change our sheets twice a week. Our dogs and cat all three sleep in the bed, so the sheets get dirty fast. We don't use bleach on them, just baby Purex. Our son doesn't sleep with us at night, but sometimes he takes a nap in our bed. It's also more convenient to use the baby detergent so we can just throw his sheets in with ours, since his are so small.
