Guns Gangs and Governace, G3. This was the title of a two day conference that I attended June 12 - 13. This was sponsored by USAID and FLAVACA. A number of stake holders were brought together for this the first in a series of round table discussions on the G3. This takes a critical look at G3 in Jamaica, and the connection between G3 in Jamaica and Haiti. The Acting Commissioner of Police who presented the policing perspective traced the genesis of G3 to the trade union movement, which later mushroomed into the two major political parties of today and their links with criminal activity. This was the first time I was hearing a government officer speak so candidly on the matter. He also made a startling statement that there is intelligence which tells him that criminal elements continue to receive government contracts! How is that no one in government is not being held culpable for this. When asked that the ACP carefully did a 'verbal dance around' and said that there is a difference between intelligence and evidence. This is unacceptable
