People who think they are better than you...

June 14, 2007 11:42am CST
I recently spotted a discussion which mentioned some interesting but funny thoughts. Someone mentioned that having more responses and a higher post count was better than being liked and that made them better than this person with a higher star. Confusing? I don't get it either. Neither are important at least to myself. The person who was attacked by those lines didn't even say anything out of line they just mentioned they preferred knowing that someone read their discussions even if they went unnoticed to. It's funny when your moods in a world of it's own you notice so much crap. For me it says more about those who think they're better than someone else because a better person In my opinion is someone who go around thinking they are something. What are your thoughts? I'd be interested to hear the views of someone who has an higher post count than myself and believes the aboves right. (I'm no better than anyone here) ~Joey

I agree with you. Stars could go up or down, I've been 9 for the longest time and out of the sudden I'm now 10. I'm still friends with the same people regardsless their stars or post count, and do all I can to respond to my friends' topics even if they don't respond to mine. Because I have over 100 friends it's impossible for me to respond to all of them, so I don't make it a big deal if they don't respond to my topic, hence I couldn't care less how many responses I get. There were times I needed more than 1 response, because I need more choices to pick BR from. If 1 response nailed it, then it gets BR. It is important for me that those who matter to me and those I like, like me too. But the rest, I'm not bothered. My post count gets like that after 5 months here anyway, I'm not here 24/7 so I don't get to over 5000 easy.

it is the issue of quality vs quantity both have a place in mylot, I wouldn't chose except in a situation that the quality was so poor I would not find it an interesting read and then, I would not care of the person had 5 million comments, I am not reading it.

Exactly. It doesn't something to everyone, some may find it works to their advantage but I don't really care. Newbies are very important, they help progress such community and without them mylot would be stuffed. especially if put those who are leaving in to this scenario. Thanks carol,

I would not label myself as better than anyone else because I know that I am not at all. But, I can see what that person is saying because I feel that way when someone responds to my discussions. It is always good to be noticed that way.

I am a star 10, and my posts are pretty high, however i do not consider myself to be better than anyone else. I hardly ever notice the star next to peoples names since it doesnt really say much. I have a friend that was a 10, one week later she was a 2, just because she had a very controversial discussion - but that didnt make her any worse of a person. Some people just have a strange way of looking at things.

The majority of us are here for the same reason...to give our opinions and to respectively ask other's for their opinions. This isn't a contest of any sort, it's just a place that we go to see what other's may think of certain situations that we are in or topics on the world today. The numbers and Stars mean nothing to me...it's the great people that I get to chat to on here that make it all worth while. So for those thinking that they matter more in the world, we are all special for different reasons...get over it!

Hey Bambi Doe (Brenda) *waves. You can say that again. Reminds me of another forum I'm a member of where people with higher counts chuckle away and generally put down those who are newbies or haven't yet become popular. It's like being back at school. Thanks for you response!

Honestly I dont think any one is more inoprtant than another person. The richest and most successfull person could make a bad investment and loose it all and end up att he begining again. Anything can happen at any time. That is what I teach my kids. Yea they are all apecial but 1 is not better than the other because all have something diffrent to offer the world.

(Not awake so bear with me lol) I have a hard time taking either or seriously, to be honest. I tend to remember those who I see posting quality discussions or responses and go from there. I see plenty of high-ranked posters out there, and also see a ton of them just pasting articles that someone else on the world wide web wrote. Stars...Well, I still don't get the star thing, aside from the fact that abscence apparently matters lol. I moved to a new place right after it started and have been gone a few months until now, so I'm still lost. All I know is I see great posters from all sides of the spectrum, whether it's someone who has a high number of posts, a pretty blue star, or a lower-ranked person who gives quality responses just as well. Personally, I see that a lot on the net...where people turn every little rank-based thing into a competition. Nuts.

What the crap? If anyone thinks he's better than me because he has a higher number of posts, then good for him, if that's what makes him feel better. As if I do care. It just shows how stupid they are, to be honest.

I think I have an idea who you're talking about, Joey. It may be just pure coincidence, but I actually have one on my list who posted similar thread like you mentioned. We all have different purposes and reasons for being here at mylot. I am here because of the chance to interact with my friends and other posters. I learn new things everyday and best of all, my brain is always on tip top shape. I won't say anything against the poster who posted the discussion. That someone might not been here long enough to understand what mylot friends really means. Money might be the sole reason why that someone is here.

Lol joey, i think that people that think that they are better then other people, do have a problem. They usually do not really believe they are really better then others and have to say that so they'll get a positive reaction from other people, that will tell them: 'yes. of course, you are better, you are the best'. It seems so childish and i really think that their self esteem is very low if they need other people to tell them that and hear them out. There is a difference between shouting i am better then the others, and knowing that you are the best in your line of work and profession. Usually people that are very good, do not need to shout it out, don't you agree with me on that one?

Well to be honest it all sounds a bit highschool to me. Sadly I blame the actually site admin for the reason people on here think that way. They've put it in their heads that if your star rating is this or your post rating is that you are better than others who are not there yet. They have turned a discussion site into a popularity board and its sucks. Frankly I could care less if someone liked me, as long as they respected what I had to say. Outside of that I am no better or worse than the next person I am me and thats all I ever intend on being.

Oh! This is so trite! In grade school, we all did this because it was our first way of learning how to compete. True, it wasn't the most intelligent, appropriate or mature way to go about it, but hey! We were kids! But to hear that this same grade school mentality is alive and well on a site that has a majority of its members well into the legal age realm, is rather depressing as well as it is mildly shocking. In a forum like this, there really isn't a better or worse. Here, almost everything is a matter of opinion. Everyones got one and x number agree, disagree or are indifferent. So how does one end up better than another with no gradient to measure such? The rating system is no different than opinion polls. In fact, that is just what it is. Ratings and rank levels are based on the opinions of others here. The amount of posts is just a statistical number with no inference to a rating of any sort. How lame (blind?) can one be? Obviously quite lame if they need to gather their self-esteem from an arbitrarily assigned set of numbers! I just hope they don't vote!

If they are better than me well and good. I am what i am. I don't want praises from others. I am past that age. People have superiority complex, but it is nothing inferiority complex.

why would anyone think they are better than others in the first place? In God's eyes, each and everyone of us are equal...and He loves us all...it is just us who make this bug fuzz about who is better than someone else...maybe because of our inferior intelligence that makes us think that we should measure how we stand in a community of people like us when it is not really necessary.

well if I had that point of view you'd be better than me because you've posted so much more than I have. LOL! I don't like it anymore than you do. It makes no sense. My goal is just to participate in discussions, make a few friends and enjoy the forum - without the stuff we should have all left behind at the school playground.
