HELP .. I am INFECTED and I CAN'T get it REMOVED~!

I have been blessed that I have not been infected before now, I am online all the time so I thought I had all the protection I needed with my Norton Anti-Virus, along with Spybot and Ad-Aware, but today when I got on I automatically starting getting pop ups for various places, hollywood.com, movies.com, they are all different, so I put on my pop up blocker, ran all my scanners and found some that they quickly removed, although it took several reboots to get them removed, I thought I had them done, but I obviously do not, they are still lurking. I recently had downloaded Gomez Peer which pays you to surf the net and I am thinking that it is part of that software which was the first to be deleted off my system. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of this thing, it has obviously placed itself in the registry since I went through Add/Remove Programs and nothing is there and I searched all over Explorer and could not find anything out of the ordinary. This is my last hope before calling Dell and I am just not ready to face them today.

As far as trying to remove that program search through your files in windows. It's got to be there somewhere. Some programs you have to delete from the files and not from the windows add/remove area. If you find it and delete it more than likely it was say all files couldn't be deleted. Then search again and remove the folder for it which is usually empty. Also to find this program go to search in the windows and try to find it there. That's the best I can offer. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Go into Nortons and find the program as it should be there. wait are you running Norton Sytem Works? Its that program that you'd be able to find the file in as it was there once. I am trying here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

try restoring your system to a date prior to when all the problems happened or started happening. probably about a week. also I have been running gomez peer for over a year now and having had a problem like the one your mentioning. but a restore to a prior date will usually work.

So glad you did not have problems with Gomez, I thought it was something in their system to get you to visit more websites. But I did a system restore to an earlier date and it did not work.

i agree to lord's post. every week i do a free trendmicro.com housecall and my computer is safe now with all the security programs i have. i hope it helps you to get rid of all these nasty things. with the housecall you see lots more of the malware you have on your computer.

Why don't you try a scan at housecall.trendmicro.com and see what it turns up.

I have experience that before..I used to take my computer into the shop and spend $80.00, before I realized that I could do it myself...lol..The one thing that seemed to help was this registry cleaner that I downloaded..(CClean), it is free and highly recomended my Microsoft. It cleans your registry and fixes any problem that may lie within. It aso has a disk cleaner for your hard drive. Although, we have a disk cleaner with our OS, it doesn't delete it all! The CClean will delete the files that your OS can't get to. IF that doesn't work the only choice you have would be to detete you OS and REINSTALL your OS...Good Luck

well i do not download things off the internet except i can verify the source. majority of those free programs are virus loaded and i would say stay away from them Norton anti-virus to me is not a powerful anti virus solutions program cause there are times i use norton and it says the system is perfect but when i use either avast or bit defender, i get to still see some viruses which norton ignored. So i would urge you to change into a new anti-virus solutions program and try do another scan,if it persists then yo might have to re-format your system or take it to dell

Hello Texasclassygal, I'm going to third Lordwarwizard's suggestion. However, if you have non-viral mal-ware that keeps re-loading itself from your registry, then you need to wipe it out of your registry with a sweeper. One respondent suggested the name of one registry sweeper (on the first page), but I cannot vouch for that brand. You can either check PC Online, for their registry sweeper reviews, or ask around. If you still don't get any alternative suggestions, then respond here. I'm at the office, so I cannot share the name of the sweeper that I purchased, (it's on my home computer), but I will follow up on your question to see if you seek that info. In older MS versions, it was reasonable to enter your own registry, and have a clear inkling of what belonged and what didn't. Not anymore! There are just too many appllications running constantly. Anyway, good luck with this!

I never really liked Norton. I use AVG and I have spybot and adaware too. I don't usually have much of a problem. But every once in awhile something comes along that I can't get rid of. I turn to the people at pcpitstop.com. They have a forum there where you can ask questions. They are really nice and explain things in terms I can understand. They also have free tests that you can run on your computer. They are not always quick about getting back to you but they will eventually. It might be worth looking into. Also, you may have to boot up in safe mode and then run all your scans, if you haven't already done that. Good luck.

I had the same experience, texas, only ten times worse. My computer finally crashed completely. I purchased an antivirus program online and it helped for awhile, but never completely got rid of all the junk I had picked up. Now I try to be very careful about the sites I visit. I also run frequent scans for viruses and spyware. That helps a lot. I wish you luck.

hey texasclassygal, if you still haven't brought your computer to dell, why don't you try installing avg free 7.5. it's a good antivirus software, it doesn't eat much of your space and always updates (almost everyday) their virus vault. norton is not a good software anymore although i use norton ghost, but that's a different story). it always tells windows what to do (when it should be windows who's running the show), and it eats up a lot of your space. and try installing mindsofts registry cleaner and make a full scan. i always scan my registry before i shutdown my computer. it works. i haven't had any computer problems for quite sometime now. it all really depends on how you maintain your computer. and if you're wondering where to download the programs i mentioned, try http://www.download.com. hope it helps
