My big cat won't eat unless I'm standing behind him. He's been this way ever since we got our second cat seven years ago. I'm not sure if he's afraid of her, or maybe it's something else. Please help! Why is he acting this way.

My cat loves to be petted while he eats, definitely a comfort thing. As long as he is eating, I wouldn't worry about how he is eating. It could be that the other cat comes (or maybe used to when the cat first arrived) and eats his food when you are not there. Is the other cat very territorial?

Maybe your cat just feels more comfortable having you beside it while it eats. I know that my dog will not eat if we are ANYWHERE near him. If we walk into the kitchen while he's eating he'll quickly stop and bark at us. I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)
