They get their Licence in NSW, but have to re-qualify in their own states

I was watching "Last Chance Learner's" on television on Wednesday night, ahnd saw that Shannan in the red team was from Western Australia. She misplaced her learner's permit, so had to fly back to Perth for a '2 minute job' to renew her permit so she could drive around Sydney, and get her licence. I went to the website of the television show: http://au.blogs.yahoo.com/last-chance-learners/ Someone asked about whether they have to get their licences back in their own state even if they qualify in NSW. So this means that even if Shannan qualified in NSW and won the car, she would then have to go back to Western Australia and qualify again in that state. They don't get a valid NSW licence, just the car. All the stress of the test, and then doing it again in their home state. Sounds a bit weird, hey?

I think that might only apply to learner permits. Once you have your full licence... you only need one... no matter in what state you did get it. But talking about licences... what a rip off... I have to renew my licence this month and these are the costs... One year... $43.00 Three years... $103.00 Five years... $137.00 There is no doubt that the Australian government is ripping off people right, left and centre by taxing us to the hilt through indirect taxes. In France... road taxes were abolished years ago... And when you get your licence... it is a one time thing. They don't come back at you every year to make you pay for it again.

I take it you did not go to the website and check out the comments then. 7. free2beadude - Jun 14 11:01am I think it was terrible that Shannan was allowed to drive to the airport to fly back to Perth even though she did not have her licence upon her person. The rules state that you need to have your licence upon your person at all times, and Shannan did not do that. Also, does this mean that if Shannan passes she will have a NSW licence? 8. coyote_wilson - Jun 14 12:54pm Hi free2beadude. I actually didn't drive to the airport. And no, everyone from outside of NSW had to go back to their own state and sit the test again to actually get their license. 9. free2beadude - Jun 14 03:14pm Shannan, it looked like you drove there, so sorry about that. So, you sit the test in NSW, win the Hyundai if you pass, and have a valid NSW licence as you passed there, but then have to go back to WA to sit the test again. That sounds a bit unfair. Are others from out of NSW as well, I did not look 10. coyote_wilson - Jun 14 09:19pm Yeah, dont know why they put that shot in when you could clearly see it was Lee driving when we got to the airport =) Nope, no NSW license either because we weren't NSW residents =( Everybody except Belinda and Simone were from outside of NSW. So, this means they sit the test, pass it, win the car, and then go back to their own states to do it again.

That is your clue... Nope, no NSW license either because we weren't NSW residents. You can only get your licence in the State where you live. That is done so that if people in NSW lose their licence... they cannot run in another State to get another licence. But if you have a licence in the State where you live... that licence is valid anywhere in Australia... as well as the rest of the world. And no... I don't watch the show.

So, you see that they have the stress of the test in NSW, but then have to go back to WA (Shannen), Tas (David), etc. to actually get their provisional licence. It kind of sucks.
