At the end of book 6 Snape reveals to Harry that he was the half blood prince. However earlier in the book harry is wondering who the Half Blood prince could be and is hoping it is his father. He's told to check the date on the book and discovers its over 50 years old and therefore it can't be his fathers. However Snape was at school with Harry's father so by the same argument it can't be his and he cannot be the half blood prince, so was it snape that really killed dumbeldore or was snape lying for some reason?

I just cant understand why sanpe would have left/forgotten something so valuble like that. Im sure it wasnt on purpose that he left it. If not he wouldnt have been angered whn he found out harry had the book. HE would have been amused that someone found it and was using his creations. Wouldnt he?? Well, he might have forgotten it considering that was his classroom for so long. HE probably did forget about it.

It does seem odd that he'd have just left it, but it was his room for ages, maybe he used to lend it to his favourite (slytherin) pupils to help them along?

I tend to agree with Mihimolly that the book did belong to Eileen Prince and was passed onto Snape as they were poor. Snape does not come across as a character who would make false claims and boast about them. So when he himself acknowledges that, I think we can safely take his word for it. So in my opinion Snape is the Half Blood Prince. Cheers! Ram

Think your probably right, he dosen't really boast in the other books. I was thinking more it may have been an imposter and not snake due to the age, but your points about his family explain that pretty well i think.

hmm..yu have a point there...but i think theyve already proved that snape used the book for a good amount of time...but maybe voldemort owned it at first..cause it was nearly 50 years ago..that he was at hogwarts..and then later..snape..used it...and dont think lily used it...but then who knows...

the book belonged to snape's mother and was passed on to snape by her. and one must remember snape was very intelligent at dark arts and potions. so he could have experimented and scribbled the notes on the book. James could not have been the HBP as he was from a pure lood family so was eline prince. she married to a muggle, that made snape a half blood. so he secretly adopted the title of HBP. and he knows everthing there is in the book. so why should he keep the book. so he must have kept in the cupboard and later forgot about it. this book luckily passed into the hands of harry. i think that snape in the original HBP.
