Respect for the elderly.. do we care anymore?

In the Uk and im sure the US too we see all the time elderly people being mugged or mistreated even in care homes where people are supposed tobe looking after them.It seems that in this modern day humans too have their sell by date and once they are retired have no real value in society.Do you think it is because modern society is more materialistic ? is it becasue modern youth have no respect for any authority.Is it because our so called role models dont behave in a proper manner? id love to know the reasons if only because i have more years behind me than in ...lolfront of me
