A few ppl in my family have been bitten by dogs-I realize this problem is widespread so here's my story: I was strolling along one summer day when I was a mere babe of 16 yet already 5 months pregnant on my way to my boyfriends house.I had gone about three houses down when staring me in the face was a humongous rottweiler we just stared at each other & I froze then I turned & sprinted as fast as my pregnant belly would let me run towards my house hollering"open the door, open the door!!" (funny now but then it was terrifying) the dog was hot on my tail barking away & when I hit my front door just like in horror movies I couldn't open it (always thought that couldn't happen-it does) I was screaming for someone to open the door nobody had so I just shut myself in between the screen door & front door so the dog couldn't get at me. Finally the dog left & I let myself in & cussed my whole family out saying "didn't y'all hear me?!!"
Totally true story I crack up when I tell ppl about it now & they laugh too b/c I'll be acting out the whole thing but I was so scared when it happened-I hope anyone who owns a dangerous dog that reads this will check the strength of their dogs chain!

Let me give you a tip so you are better prepared if this happens to you again. Unless a dog runs at you avoid running away, because although a properly trained dog will not vite you almost all dogs will chase you if you run, they think it's a game. Back away slowly, if the dog continues to approach and you feel you have to run then i guess go with you gut, but running form a dog will alwys ensue a chase. My dog is very kind, she is good with children and all types of furry animals (she is afaid of birds and reptile) and she is a pitbull mix, so I son't think you can judge a dog by its breed. She barks when she sees someone because I never trained her not to, that's her voice and I want her to communicate as best she can. But if you ran from her she would chase you and jump on you, she wouldn't try to bite you but she would jump on you just as she would if she were playing with another dog.
