Has anyone read this book yet. Iv'e just started and the first few pages baffled me, in a good why. Putting words in sentences then telling you to go read back over and make sense of what you just read. This guy is a genius. I 'd like to chat with people who have encountered this guy and anyone who has actually been controlled by him. Come on lets get it going

I have read this book several times and I now fully understand it. There are a lot of different subjects you need to study to understand and be able to do what derren does. I have read into a lot of this stuff further and I can tell you it has a lot to do with psychology, hypnosis, rapport, nlp, body language, subliminal messaging, cold-reading and much more. The guy is a genius, but that's because he spent 20 years studying and developing his techniques.

I also read it. but theory and practice is two different entities. theoretically it is good and good to read, but Practically, it is just difficult. I tried. with repeated reading book also, hardly 5% is achievable. I feel all this NLP, Mind control, psychology, etc., But hard to practice.

Personally, I don't find this stuff that difficult at all, once you know how it all works. The main basis to be able to do anything like this is to establish rapport with someone. In NLP there is a presupposition which says 'the map is not the territory' based on the fact that people live in their own unique model of the world. In other words, everybody's perception of the world is different and the way they see it is about how they represent things to themselves in their minds. It is relatively easy to determine how somebody is representing something to themselves, they basically give it away in their body language and unconscious communication and it is easy to spot. You can basically then just pace and lead them into whatever behaviour you require. If they don't realize what you are doing then that just makes them more susceptible to it. Everybody can be controlled and manipulated quite easily once you know what makes them tick. Hypnosis is extremely easy to perform and even easier on stage in front of an audience, anyone can do it once they know how. A lot of Derren's tricks also rely on the way that someone is representing their experience to themselves. Simply by telling someone directly to change their internal representation (mental image) you can cause them to react differently to the experience extremely easily. Basically, he's just doing exactly what narcissists do naturally. A narcissist can psychologically manipulate everybody around them at a level they are unaware of, in other words, they do it subliminally but they are so good at it because they have trained it into their subconscious which is what a mentalist like Derren Brown has to do in order to be so efficient. In a way, Derren Brown is a self-made narcissist except without the personality disorder and abusive behaviour that comes with it. All I would say is just read, read and read more on all the inclusive subjects until you know them inside out and then get plenty of practise. It's not that hard at all really!

I haven;t read the book but it all looks great on TV. It's Neuro Linguistic Programming and its everywhere - though usually in a more overt form than in the way Derren Borwn uses it. Telecommunication people use it to make sales, teaches are even adviced to use some aspects, and therapists find it very helpful for their clients.

Yep, NLP (which is only a small part of Derren's work) is everywhere! It's used for business coaching, management training, sales and marketing, mentalism (a mentalist is not someone who is mental! It's someone like Derren who performs psychological tricks), NLP training courses, etc. I've been learning to master all this stuff for the last four years and I'm building two websites focused on this sort of thing. One of them NLP, one of them all the other psychological stuff.
