Do you run out of checkbook ledgers before you run out of checks?

I always have a ton of checks, but run out of the little register thingys long before! I have no idea what you are supposed to do then, so I just balance the checkbook on a blank piece of paper, but somehow it isn't the same without the nice and neat lines to work in. Why don't they give more ledgers? Maybe I just spend too much. Do you run out before it's time to order more checks?

Can't you just ask at the bank? I know at the bank where I work we have a drawerful of those things, and just give them to people when they need them. I think the check companies don't give you more because some people never use the one they're given, and thus it would be wasteful to give people more.

Even if you didn't order the checks from them, if you have your account there, it's just good customer service for them to help you out. I know when I give them out to people, I don't stop to think about where they ordered their checks! I would hope your bank would look at it the same way! Most of those people who don't keep registers do wind up messing things up actually. Except the ones who look at online banking all the time.

Sweet, I'm going to ask the next time i'm in! I look at online banking, and do the register all the time. I am paranoid about bouncing something!

You can go to your bank and request anothe register any time you need one...I usually have them give me 2 at a time because when I run out of lines it is not always convenient to run to the bank...I don't know why they only provide one with the new order of checks...I guess, because the banks carry them.....

YES!! It drives me bonkers- I usually just make my own on excel- and print it out- It's because I use my debit card all the time- so I have alot of these in the ledger- and I don't write many checks out- Still I think they should sell the checkbooks and send 2 ledgers- I too don't like to use regular paper- it's bigger and just awkward.

I think most people have that problem now. I don't know very many people that still write a lot of checks. I know that we write two checks a month most of the time. Every once in a while we will write an extra check or two but not very often. We pay all the rest of our bills online, and use the debit or credit card for any of the regular purchases we make. It's so much more convenient that way. As just about everyone else has suggested, we just go to the bank and ask for another one when we run out. This is going to sound really bad, but I'm not even sure where one of my checkbooks is. We've written a grand total of 3 checks with that account since we opened it sometime last summer. Part of my husband's pay goes into every month, and we use the debit card for it sometimes, but not very often. I know that the checkbook is in my computer room somewhere, I just don't know where. We just rely on the online banking to keep track of the balance right now.

Yes, I always run out of transaction registers before I run out of checks. But I always get more when I go to the bank. I just ask the teller I need a transaction register (or 2..sometimes more ;)), and they always give me one (or more). The last time I asked for one the bank teller said they were just about out. But he looked and found one for me. He said it was the last one! So even the bank runs out of them! LOL What's really ironic about it though was that when I got home I found two unused transaction registers that I forgot I had! So I didn't even need the one I just got from the bank! Oh well, I WILL need it eventually! LOL The reason I run out of transaction registers before I run out of checks is because I hardly use checks, but rather pay with my debit card.

That has happened from time to time to us as well. I just mozey on down to the bank and request another. They are more than happy to gift me with a new register - however it tends to be a very thin register...but better than nothing.

The ledgers in our checkbook have light and shaded lines. I use both lines for each check I write. But my mom only used one of the lines per check and she never ran out of ledgers before checks. I find it harder to follow if I don't put the amount of the deposit or check under the total to add or subtract and put the new total on the bottom of the two lines. She did all that figuring in her head, so didn't need both lines. I'm more dense than she was, I guess.

Yes, this happens to me all the time! I just ask the bank for a new ledger and they usually give me one free of charge. I pay most of my bills online so I don't write many checks. I haven't had to reorder checks in over 5 years! LOL.
