I take them off if they are eating something messy! lol! My family thinks i am insane, but I pay alot for their clothes, so I think it's wise to do this, especially considering they are all messy. It isn't every time, but usually with white shirts, or their nautica polos, and the younger two's custom made clothing, I make it a habit to do this. Does anyone else do this?

My sister is the greatest mom ...when she takes her kids out for dinner either to a friends or a restaurant say for something messy like pasta ...she brings four large bibs ...her kids are 4 and 6 and the 6 yr old balked at wearing a bib because he is a big boy...she explained to Him the bib was for anyone eating something messy to protect say a favorite shirt...so now mommy daddy and the two kids wear their bibs when eating something messy ...clothes are protected ...less laundry to do lol and the bibs just need a wipe they are plastic on outside... toriaT

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who does this. I don't do it with all of their clothing. Just the more expensive pieces. Anytime we eat anything that has a red sauce or something like that I will have them remove their shirts. My daughter puts on one of her play shirts. I had some family and friends that made fun of me because I did this. I would get lectured that it was just clothing.

I think it's okay, but not if they're too old, we're in public, or they really don't want to. I'd rather just wash shirts than have fights with them about it. It's not worth it, as my mother always said, "We still have Tide. The world won't end."

LOL-- Nope I have a 10 yr old girl- I can't imagine her sitting there in her bra eating dinner- LOL.. I do make her put one of my work shirts over it- (big t-shirt) in case she slops- or she has to put on an apron- or change it completely until she is done eating- She is messy at times also-

When my children were smaller I did that a lot! Why ruin good clothing with something like spaghetti or another terribly messy dish? Also, why not save on the cost of laundry too?! I see no problem with it!

I think it is a pretty good idea. I had never think of that. Usually, I put apron on them. Next time if they gonna eat something messy at home, I will do that. Thanks for the great tip! Have a great weekend.

I think it is inorder to be conscious of the clothing of children, I tell my own children not go playing football in thei nice clothes because it will ruin these clothes. I just urge you to continue taking cae of kids clothes yur way.

To some degree I agree with you. With white shirts I will make my kids take them off or I will bring a junky shirt for them to wear when they are eating so they dont get there good shirts too dirty. If it is something that is going to stain then yeah I see changing the shirt but if it is not going to stain and easily washes out then I wouldent worry about it too much. Kids will be kids and messes are all part of the package.

Kids... - Kids...
Hey, thts nt wht u shud do. Clothes r meant to be worn, not to put aside so tht they dn't get dirty. N aftr all, clothes nowadays come with the proprty tht the more u wear thm, the better they look on u. N remember, clothes are made fr us, v r nt made fr the clothes. So, keep ur li'l ones all dressed up fr tht next meal of urs. Try to instruct thm on hw to eat properly. All the best...

Your not insane, I totally agree with you. Shirts can get ruined in a splt second, I know. I dont actually take my kids shirts off but I do tuck a tea towel or large napkin into the front of their shirt.

I dont think you are insane at all. I have three kids and i know how expensive it is to cloth them. My kids have there good clothes and their play clothes i make them take there good clothes off when they get home from school and put some play clothes on and old shirts if they are having something messy or staining for a meal. I think it is practical myself.

Actually, I have 2 sets of clothing. there is at home clothing which may be stuff that is inexpensive that I will pick up at a department store. This is the stuff that he wears at home and around th farm. I dont' care if it gets stains and dirt, grass, ice cream, speghetti sauce, or whatever on it because after all the outfit most likely cvost less then $20.00 The 2nd set of clothes is the good clothes. These are the going out or school clothes that are clean and unstained, usually I have spent more money on these clothes from particular brands and stores.

I did that with my children. My oldest did not like clothes so she ended up eating naked. It was easier to clean her up that way. Just give her a bath and she was as good as new. I did that with my youngest. It saved a lot of heartache trying to get stains out of their clother. I think it is easy to do it that way, so they are easier to clean up. You are not alone on that.

I used to just put bibs on them, now they are old enough to take care of them selvs with matters such as these.

It`s better to educate them to be more clean and to take care about their hygiene. And to choose more simple and practic, not too expensive clothes.

My son eats in just a diaper at home more often than he eats wearing clothes. lol He absolutely refuses any help at all in eating, so anything that requires a spoon ends up everywhere! He's got the hang of it well enough to get it in his mouth with MOST of the food still on it when he's good and hungry, but toward the end, he tends to turn it upside down or try to flip it at the dogs. It's hard to get him to leave a bib on when we are at home, too. He will use one in a restaurant if we make it seem important and exciting, but he won't use at home, no matter how hard we try.

My youngest is nearly three. If she is eating something I know will stain I remove her top also. The amount of tops that she has is unreal, but most of them are ruined due to stains of some decription! Most kids get put in tatty clothes to play out, mine has very nice clothes with stains from tomato soup!!!

It is not insane at all. At least I hope not because I do it too. I also carry an oversized tshirt in my diaper bag to put on over him for when we are in public and I don't want him just sitting in a diaper while he eats. More often than not I just put the tshirt right over his clothes since he is a little older now and doesn't seem to get as messy.

Have you considered buying clothing that is on sale for them? You must buy them expensive stuff. Keep in mind that they will outgrow the nice stuff within a few months. I don't know about stripping the kids down, especially in public. Maybe a bib and small apron might be better. In the house though, just put small black or brown t-shirts on them. That might be nice if you are taking them to a public place instead of leaving them shirtless.

it is good not good to off the nice shirt kids is wearing while eating someting messy instead to do so cover the shirt by towel or other cloth. For doing the kid will not get angry or cry
