Know when to say when at the dinner table.

Out of habit, I'll eat everything on the dinner plate, whether I'm hungry or not. And, I guess that's my biggest diet downfall. Too much! Do you keep eating, even when you're not hungry anymore? Are you able to push away from the dinner table when you feel full. How do you know when it's time to call it quits at the dinner table? And, how do you keep from serving yourself too large a portion for your diet needs?

What I find works well is to use a plate half the size of a regular dinner plate and then put a spoon of whatever you're serving your family on it. You should have a spoon each of the entree, vegetable, etc. Then you need to eat slowly and enjoy the flavors. Take time between each bite; talk to the family about their day and yours. You'll find, after awhile that you'll start to feel full sooner. When you realize that you're full - Stop - What also works for me, when we go out to a restaurant, my husband and I choose what we want to eat, he orders it along with an extra plate; I will then take a few bites. It works great and saves us a 'ton' of money.

Hi there. This is a really good topic that Im sure everyones familiar with or knows someone who is. Growing up I use to eat everything and more, so did all my cousins, because to leave anything behind was looked at as wasting food and then we would get told about people in poverty stricken countries who dont get to eat at all... So yeah we would eat all our food and it became habit until I reached high school and became aware of healthy eating and knowing when to stop and not too over eat, because our stomachs are only small and forced to stretch the more we eat...

I seem to have this problem when I am eating a meal that tastes really good! lol Then I can't push it away until I have ate every last morsel of it. If it is only so-so then I usually can push it away before I feel like I am going to pop some buttons. :) Definitely something I need to work on.
