Is this true?

I've heard that women in India use a weekly warm coconut oil treatment on their hair to increase shine and fullness without expensive hair care products. I've never used it before. But, it sounds like a fantastic idea. What do you think? What's your best tip for luxurious, healthy hair?

I think it does work. Here in the Philippines, I also hear some people who swear by this natural hair product. My grandmother used to do this too and I think it is effective since her hair always stayed soft and beautiful. Natural hot oil treatment, she says. Although I have not tried it myself I think it is much better that the ones the salon offers. It's a good thing that I have straight hair that I don't have to resort to rebonding, a very expensive treatment that ladies with kinky hair have to undergo in order to have their hair straight. My tip for a healthy hair is to not use the same shampoo product since the longer you use the same kind it tends to leave residue in the hair that will make it limp. It is better to use two to three shampoo brands alternately.

Thank you for adding that point about shampoos and hair products. That's so true! Awhile back I heard from a salon specialist that you should swap out your shampoo/conditioner duo every 30 to 45 days. This will keep residue and build up to a minimum. However, I'm sure that changing shampoos as often as once a week couldn't hurt either. Thanks for the great ideas!

I never hear about it, so I cannot judge it is true or not. But it really makes sense. It sounds like a good idea to treat the hair in a more natural and healthy way. Honestly, I don't mind to give it a try.

That really does sound like a good tip. I wouldn't be surprised either if it really did work that well. I've tried using an egg, or two depending on the length of your hair, mine goes to my shoulders and about a teaspoon or two of olive oil. I leave it in my hair for about 30 minutes and keep it all up with a hairclip than shampoo after and my hair is so shiny and soft. I do it about once a week and it really keeps my hair feeling healthy.

COCONUT OIL! Tried and tested! I believe it.. it's absolutely true. i just can't stand the smell. It's not a bad smell.. it's just too-too coconut-y. It brings shine and for those with black hair.. it makes it seems even darker and so luscious. Also, for those with thinning hair can try this. It really thickens your hair. My culture believes in confinement after giving birth. My confinement was for 45days. And all 45 days, i had to put coconut oil all over my hair and body. I tell you, it was icky because I love my shower gel smell and to have it lathered all over you for 45 days, morning and evening, well.. i got sick of it. But after that, i came back out in society with everyone praising me for my glowing skin, beautiful locks, thinking that motherhood really suits me. Nowadays, there's VIRGIN coconut oil available that you take orally. It's really good too! Oh and another thing.. it's best to leave overnight. Put it all over your head as you would any hair treatment.. wrap it up and leave it overnight. Wash it during your morning bath/shower.

Oh, how I wish I had known you a few years ago. The first six months after my baby was born my poor skin and hair were a mess, literally! This knowledge would have helped me so much. I will try all your wonderful ideas, and hopefully can get my skin and hair back to the way it should be. It's wonderful to hear that you received so many compliments on your hair and skin. That must have made you feel so proud. And, of course you deserved it. All new Mommies deserve the compliments! Be well!

Thanks alot! It's never too late to start.. and I'll be counting the days as to when my baby arrives, hence, marking the first day of confinement! UUrrrGGhhh.. Haha. But it's definitely worth it..
