Do you pay to have your grass cut or do you cut it yourself?

I have done it both ways. Right now I am cutting my own grass, though I have only had to do it once so far this summer. I have had someone else cut it several times for me thus far this summer. But I also get paid to cut my cousins grass next door. It only takes about an hour to cut both yards. I use a push mower. Not really enough grass to have a riding lawn mower. So do you pay someone to cut your grass or do you do it yourself?

A friend of mine has a farmhouse and he has more than 10 employees. Whenever grass has to be cut, I take my friend's help. He sends one or two persons and they do the needful. I just serve lunch for these people.

Thank you for responding. Sounds like a fair trade off, lunch for cutting grass.

There are villages where some rich people have built villas. They do not pay any money for cutting grass, instead they collect money from people who cut the grass, since this grass is used as fodder to the animals.

In the past I used to cut my grass myself, but then our lawnmower broke. So then my husband just decided instead of buying a new mower or fixing the old one. We would just hire someone to do it for us. The person we originially hired did a wonderful job and we were really happy with him. But he has since sold his business to seek other opportunities. Now this new company is just awful. I don't like the job they do at all and I am now considering just going back to doing it myself again.

Thank you for your response. I know what you mean, sometimes it is just better to do it yourself.

I have paid my kids to mow the lawn but have never paid anyone outside the family to do it - but then I've had 4 children who were always wanting to make money. Now they are getting grown and I older I may have to concider paying someone else eventually.

Faith, Thank you for your response. I never could get my girls to cut the grass. They attempted a couple times. But they couldn't even cut it in a straight line, they were all over the place.

I pay someone. I am very busy with lots of other things and it's nice to come home to see it all done. My neighbor does it with his grandson and so he does both of our yards at one time so everything is the same....both neatly done! He basically has free rein to do whatever in my yard with the exception of taking down a tree....it's just one of the things he likes!

I own a lawncare service. I get some of the guys to cut mine everyweek. I used to cut my own, but I have 9 acres and dont have the time any more. I have a couple zero turn mowers, a couple riding mowers (lawn tractor), a couple stand behind mowers and a few walk behind mowers.

Owning a lawncare service with as many acres that you need cut would be a good thing, and then having the guys to cut it for you is even nicer.

We do it ourselves. We don't really have a big enough yard to pay someone to do it for us. But, we haven't had to cut it for a week now because of no rain. It is turning brown and ugly.

It is the same here, the grass is turning brown and ugly. We have a 50% chance of rain Tuesday.

We cut our own grass because it is expensive to have someone else do it for us. Although I might have to get someone to cut it soon because our lawn mower decided to stop working. My husband has looked at the mower and says we probably need a new one, ugh!!

Don't you hate that when the mower decides not to work anymore! My cousin pays me $15 to cut his, and it takes about 15 minutes to cut. At that rate, I would have to pay someone $45 to cut mine, because mine takes about 45 minutes.

I have always cut my own lawn. Never really had the extra spare cash to pay someone else to do it for me. ;) Would be rather nice though where we live now, as we have about 3 acres to mow every week and it gets to be a really large job, especially if I use the push mower. Sometimes the riding lawn mower doesn't want to work properly. Shucks. Oh well it has to be done though.

Yes, it sometimes gets to be a lot when doing the whole thing by push mower. Those are the days that I dread. lol

That would be bad to have to push mow 3 acres of grass.

Thank you for responding. My cousin pays me to cut his, so I cut it when I cut mine. Unless, someone who owes me money works it off and I collect the money and they cut the grass. Which isn't too often. Glad I don't have 3 acres to cut though.

I usually cut the grass my self my parents told me that they rather pay me instead of someone else doing it I do hate cutting the grass because it takes a long time to do its a very boring job to do there are a lot of flys and mosquitos which I hate and I hate smelling like grass not to mention it ruins my shoes because it gets a bunch of grass stains on them.

My lawn is due again, I will cut it tomorrow. I have cut it four times so far this year. I have an electric push mower and it takes me less than one hour. I kind of like the work. It is a good work out. I put the cut grass on the composte. Makes nice dirt in less than one year. No, I would not hire somebody to do this work. The yard is small.

I did cut my grass about a month ago, but it has been very dry and just now needing to be cut. Think I will get my daughter to cut it this time.

I love push mowing my yard. It's exercise and a good excuse to spend some time in the sun. My husband just got a free riding mower, has had to put some work into it, but he loves it. We are responsible for about 3 acres of property to mow, plus he mows his mom's and sometime his dad's yard. We both enjoy it, just a simple satisfaction after you're done and look back and see how beautiful it is.

Thank you for your response. That is a lot of grass to cut, especially if you have to do it with a push mower. It is a good excuse to enjoy the sun, and to look back after it is cut and seeing something you accomplished.
