Expensive drinking

Everyone is complaining about the cost of gasoline. (Here is the US the average price is about $3 a gallon) What I find amazing is that no one complains about bottled water! The average cost of a 16 oz. bottle of water is around a dollar. That comes to $8 a gallon! Yet people buy a lot of bottles of water and never say a word about the price. Are you a bottled water drinker? How much money do you spend a week on water?

Good Morning! First of all your gasoline prices are really good in comparison to ours in our country of South Africa... We are paying over R7-00 for a litre of petrol. And if you are aware, a gallon is alot more than a litre. So count your blessings. As for bottled water, it depends where you buy it and if you are talking about still bottled water. Those we can get in 5 litre bottles and cost anything from R10-00 for a 5 litre container of still water to about R18-00. Depends also if it is on special or not. We pretty much have good tap water and if not then we get filters on our taps in the kitchen for drinking water and then it works out cheaper than buying the bottled water. I do not have a filter on my tap at home and the water is still relatively good enough to drink without having a bad taste. My parents have a filter on their kitchen tap for drinking water purposes. A friend of mine has a water filter dispenser machine. However, most of my friends and family just drink tap water.

I am aware that gas prices in the US are cheaper than in other countries. You are right, we are blessed! We have a well at our house and our water has a lot of sulphur. I hear it is good for the health, but the taste is terrible, so we do have a filter at our kitchen sink. I rarely by bottled water. I can't justify the expense.

Ja it seems that that is the best way to go... the filter at the kitchen sink... I also cannot justify buying bottled water when I already pay for water that is coming to my kitchen sink... Thanks for the response

Where I live I spend on a gallon of water with bubbles about one dollar. I have tap water that one can drink, it tastes great. I also have a little machine that puts bubbles into plain water. All this is relatively inexplensive, I often drink water and I seldom drink soft drinks. I did not know that you are so unfortunate to pay so much for a simple basic need.

We don't have to buy bottled water! Most people can drink from their taps. I'm just amazed at the trend for people to spend so much on something they have at home! I seldom buy it, myself. When you say water with bubbles, is it carbonated, like fizzy?

I get my water from a well. The well is 500 ft deep 400 of it through solid granite where the water comes from a vast underground lake. I run the water through a reverse osmosis filter and bottle it. No better tasting water anywhere.

It does sound good. We had good water from a well up in the mountains at our friend's house. We used to bottle it up and bring it back home with us!

I only drink bottle water unless I'm in a restaurant. It has to do with what my medication makes tap water taste like to me. I don't know how much I spend on it, but I drink more than the required 8 glass of 8oz. of water a day. But I look at it sort of like I don't eat out hardly ever, I don't buy junk food, and haven't bought clothes in a while. LOL Anything to justify the cost. I looked at the price of Fiji water in the store the other day and was just amazed. You almost have to be rich to buy that brand of water all the time. I look for the more affordable brands, but I always look to see where the water originated from.

Bottled water does taste better than most tap water. It sounds like you have a good reason to buy it. You have my permission to carry on. lol!

I'm a bottled water drinker, since the tap water tastes terrible--live in the big apple --it's like you can actually taste all the chemicals dumped into the water supply to supposedly "purify" it---so yes I do get bottled water --I usually get the store brand or Poland Springs water at about a dollar or a little more..so I don't consider that too expensive... I usually get about three gallons a week..so not too bad in price..so definitely a lot less than gasoline

If your tap water tastes bad I can understand wanting something better. I have a friend that swears she stays healthier by drinking bottled water. She also swears by organic food too.

Also another reason I drink bottled...every time I do drink tap water, I uh....well do have a reaction to it...has to do with one's "constitutional"?? LOL

It's certainly ok to buy bottled water, but just don't complain about prices of things! I guess it is good that at least people are drinking more water anyway. Thanks for the reply.

You have an excellent point dear. I would not pay that kind of money for water. I have well water, and it is great. I use that, and if I go out, I fill jugs with it.

It really makes me surprised at the stupidity of people. Bottled water isn't even pure. I understand if the water quality is poor, like here where I live, we have bore water. And the expense!? People have more money than brains. LOL.

I drink bottled water at work, but we have a water cooler for it there, and it's not that expensive. Everyone who works there and drinks the water splits the bill, so I wind up paying about $3-5 a month for it. The water tastes very good, and I drink it all day long. At home, I don't drink as much water as I should because I hate the taste of tap water. I should just buy gallons of bottled water to keep at home, but usually instead I drink other things. Or I'll make a really weak herbal tea out of it to cut the taste of the tap water.

Hello susie. I don't have to spend anything on our drinking water. I had bought a large water dispenser that automatically purified the tap water. I also put a few drops of trace minerals which serve as an added supplement for our body. My doctor highly recommended this trace minerals to me months ago. It helps to detoxify our body more and replenish the lost minerals in our body.

I used to use that analogy all the time too, only I used to say how much a gallon of milk was! People looked at me like I was nuts when I'd say that, and would then say something like, "Well, I don't buy 15 gallons of milk when I go to the store, I spend the $2.00 and it lasts a week!" So, okay, they win. I do not buy bottled water very often. My husband and I buy a bottle of water maybe every 2 months and just refill the same bottle with tap water. I've heard that it is safe to do that as long as you are not drinking out of the other person's or as long as you haven't been sick, if you get sick with anything change to a new bottle! Got sort of off track there, but. . . . ya, bottled water is rediculously priced.

I can understand people buying it on occasion, but I know people that buy it regularly, daily. And maybe they don't drink 15 gallons a week, but you can't get gas out of the tap at home either! Different people with different priorities, huh?

I do like bottled water and I buy a case of it. I can usually get it for about $3.99 for a case of 24 - 16 ounce bottles. What I do though, is refill my bottle with tap water, then I can always have a bottle of water with me. I hardly ever buy it out of a machine, because it just cost to much. I try to always have a bottle with me and just refil it.

I do try to carry water with me, too. About the only time I buy bottled water is if I am driving somewhere and run out of my own water.
