Do All The Food Recalls Frighten You?

I was just wondering about all of the recalls we have had the last couple of years. They seem to be steadily increasing. It bothers me because I don't feel that much of our food(which we pay a dear price for), is safe anymore. I remember the good old days when you could trust in the quality of the food you bought. Not so anymore. It seems that ever since the mad-cow disease scare it just doesn't end. Add to all this the fact that they are genetically altering some of our food products and it is truly frightening. I think that now would be a good time for me to really start a diet.

This is something that has been really worrying me. I have to take 5.5 lbs of ground beef back to Wal-Mart because of the latest ground beef which contains e-coli. And the scary part is I rarely watch the news and almost cooked with that meat the night I got it. Luckily we got invited to go out to eat that night so I didn't get the chance to cook with it. The next day my grandmother told me about the recall so I decided to take the meat back realived that I never cooked with it. This just makes me wonder what else I have cooked with that could have been contaminated. I feel like I have to constantly watch to see what's being recalled now. It's very sad when you have to worry about the quality of your food that much. It almost makes me want to grow my own food and become a vegan.

I try to take safety precautions....like cooking food properly and cleaning my utensils and countertops with bleach...to avoid cross contamination. I think a lot of times it's more of a hype by the media and I won't let that scare me.

Yeah winky. Back in the day I never remember hearing anything about cross contamination and all this other stuff. People knew to wash their hands thoroughly when preparing food. Also food servers were required to wear a hairnet. There had to be a good reason for this. I go into places now and some of the servers are unkempt, hair uncovered, and I turn around and walk right back out again.

I think it is always a good time to start a diet. When you think about the thousands of foods that we have, the trouble is not that widespread. But, all it takes is eating the wrong thing and you could be in trouble. In my way of thinking, I find it amazing that so many foods are safe to eat. When you consider production, transportation and shelf life, I think the food industry does a good job. As far as the health benefits of some of those foods, that is open to debate. I guess we could always go back to the way of the caveman and eat dinosaur...lol.

You'd think it'd be the opposite, that in say our great-grandparents or grandparents day that food would have problems...they didn't have the so-called "wonderful" technology that we have, nor the FDA--but gee, that may be the problem..Our food production is grown faster than it was in their days, fruits and vegetables were only purchased when in season, but now are imported from countries whose standards of food growing isn't as safe as ours and uses pesticides not sanctioned here--All types of foods are falling victim to food recalls, from meats to vegetables and fruits...so what does one exactly eat nowadays??
