Water in Lower Unit

I changed the lower unit on my 1996 225HP Mad Max Mercury. What I did not realize is that when replaced the drain plug the washer fell off. Hence the next time I changed the lubricant theere was water (milky looking) in the lower unit. What is best way to clear water from lower unit.?
