I'm a Canadian who lives in McAllen Texas in the winter. McAllen is 30 minutes from the mexican border and a small mexican town called Progreso. Progreso has Hundreds of Dentists. Many of them are American taught. They have a good business because they will fill a tooth for $25.00 US, and a Crown is $75.00 and they do it while you wait! You don't need an appointment just walk in. Of course they are very busy, and they do good work. I get my teeth cleaned every fall for $20.00 US. Last year I had a couple of old fillings replaced. If you wanna save some money get your teeth looked after in Progreso Mexico.

Hello! Well, that is good that you live in McAllen, Texas. I know exactly where it is because I have a pen pal from there and I looked on the map before. Anyway, I don't live close to there, if anything I live closer to Canada than to Mexico. However, I do go to the dentist twice a year. I don't have dental insurance, and I am willing to pay for it because my teeth are very precious to me. The medical community is beginning to research that uncleaned teeth can lead to heart disease and stroke. Why? Because the plaque and tartar on the teeth can begin to clog the arteries if the teeth aren't regularly cleaned. I definitely would do it in Mexico if I knew the person was a good dentist from the USA. A person that did good work, so perhaps I will be asking you for a referral if I ever move to McAllen ;). Monthly seems a bit too often unless you have braces or on-going work to be done. My dentist recommends twice a year, but I haven't seen my dentist in about 5 years.I don't have dental insurance and I just don't like the idea of paying money to have someone torture me!

Well, I didn't visit the dentist in a long time and I had some problems such as some cavities and such. I brush my teeth and floss them, I do a lot, but I guess that doesn't always work. I am thinking about brushing them four to five times a day because I don't think twice a day is enough. As for the dentist I visit her twice a year. That is what they recommend and I figure it is the best for my teeth. I would definitely go every month if I could afford it, but it is just too much. Pablo

Wow friend! This is a wonderful discussion, but I have to be honest with you that life in some parts of Nigeria is quite though. I mean people only go to hospital when they're sick cos of the money. To tell you the truth, some can only afford money for food. That's to say, many of them send their children to government schools. As for me, I visit a dentist when am having problem with my teeth, but I know how important it is visiting a dentist. Its just cos of money, but since am working and earn little now, I'l try and see how I can visit a dentist at least once a year, eventhough am working in order to rais money and further my education. Thanks and have a nice day.

Dentists would love it if you visited every month but your insurance company would not and they would probably not pay for it so often. I go every 6 months which is a normal length of time between check up visits that is covered by insurance

We went to the dentist every six months because frankly that is how much my husband's dental insurance covered. If we had to get root canals and crowns, the dentist told us how much was left over so we could that. Now that my husband's retired, if we get dental insurance it will not cover crowns and caps until three years. Since we only need cleaning, we will have to save to cover the crowns and caps ourselves.
