Arbor Day or Where are the Prairie Chickens?

a male prarie chicken - the tall prairie grasses are ideal brooding areas for the prairie chicken, who finds shelter from predators within. They also feed on the various grain/seeds from the prairie grasses and wildflowers.

such a beautiful animal! are they next to become extinct? are the environmentalists concerned? I think the true conservationists are concerned - and making a concertive effort to save such creatures from extinction. not all naturalists are solely tree huggers.

I guess I was in the fourth grade when I first learned about Arbor day. the class went out together and each of us planted a tree - they must be huge by now! Since that era of the 70's there has been a lot of propaganda for the preservation of wildlife through reforestation, as well as planting acres that were not previously wooded. We have heard about the poor wood owls and other creatures dependent upon forestry for shelter and food.... But, to what ends? have we gone too far? what has become of our meadow lands and the creatures that depend on them?Where is the Prairie Chicken going to thrive, or the Bob white quail or countless other meadow animals?
