Awhile back my partner and I watched a documentary about the increasing stupidity in society. Then more recently the movie Idiocracy came out and even though it was a parady there were some eerie parallells to today's world. Does anyone else out there think that people are making a lot more stupid choices...or are they just getting more air time? Whatever it is there are increasingly more examples of stupidity in every area of life including the political arena, entertainment industry, extremist religious groups and lest we forget the dumbest criminal television program. Is the 'dumbing down' of society just a trend or is it actually happening? I'll give you a few of my observations and I'd love to hear from others who see stupid people at their stupid or don't care best. Those who don't drive for conditions are great examples...how many times do we have to bear witness to the big wipeout because someone was to spaced out to recognize they were courting danger? Of course there are those who embibe and drive...too much air time about Ms. P.H. and L.Lohan these days...sterling role models that they are. Here's another one...nurses who come to work speading their mucos ladden germs throughout a facility full of sick people in weakened conditions. Not a terribly bright idea. Staying with that theme there are those who enthusiastically hug, kiss and hold hands in an intimate sharing moment. Then right afterward they cough, sneeze and pull out a disgustingly soggy tissure and blow their noses. The final kicker is before leaving they grab a hand or give a big embrace AND EVER SO LOVINGLY transfer their bug to a loved one. Duhhh.....thanks a lot. Stupid. don't care...who knows? In closing I am not going to be so deluded as to claim I never say or do stupid things. But most people I know and myself included do try to learn from their experiences and not repeat the less desirable ones. Maybe the clue here is stupid is as stupid does when you know better and keep doing it anyway...like Ms. P.Hilton. I am sure that is why everyone is up in arms and so fed up with hearing about it..and I am too. But she is such a good example that it is hard not to include her in this discussion. Anyone interested in sharing some 'stupid observations?' It may not provide a solution but usually helps to tilt things and see them from another angle and that is why this is a such a great site!

I would have to go with your airtime theory. Just about anything makes the news anymore. Sometimes I think news stations due it just to fill their time slots. For some of the others I would go with either not thinking, dumb, and don't care.
