Who would you consider the most influencial guitarist in music? Eddie Rickenbacker, Les Paul, George Barnes and Charlie Christian would have to be way up there, I mean, without them we would still be stuck in acoustic land. Emmet Chapman, Harry DeArmond, Jimmy Webster, Eddy Van Halen, Randy Rhoades and Stanley Jordan all gave us different techniques of tapping and hammers. Duane Eddy, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Brian May, Tom Scholz, Syd Barret, Steve Vai, Joey Ramone, and a list longer than the internet itself, all gave us new roads to travel in distortion and effects. So, who would you consider the most influential guitarist. The one to which all the modern day guitarists owe their royalty checks? My vote goes to Scotty Moore. While I'm not a big fan of his music (never liked Elvis ;~D) he was the first guitarist to play what we now call "Lead Guitar". Before him, the guitar was strictly a rythm instrument and the chords were king. After all, you can appreciate what a musician did, even if you don't particularly like the music they played.
