What's the difference?

I was half-listening to a radio documentary this morning about motherhood in the legal profession... how it limits success, opportunity, "billable hours" etc. Anyway, someone said, "I don't see it as a women's issue but a gender issue..." Huh?

perhaps they meant in the legal profession women are treated differently whether they are mothers or not, so it not about being a mother just sexism. The person didn't make that very clear however, should have used the word "motherhood" instead of "womens" maybe.
