Who remember's the barter service or knows what it is?I remember my mom and some friends used it amonst each other when I was a child. My mom and uncle have toldme that where kids in the late 1930's alot of local businesses used it.Then as I grew and by time I bacame an adult,no one used it or knew what it was. Matter of fact when my husband first got sick, but was still able to do some work.He was a plumber, did some painting, yard work too.He had friend's that could do other stuff for a cheap price, such as electrical work. And I have had lot's of child care, pre school teaching and christian teaching experience.I also had some professional cleaning, office and telemarketing experience and we were trying to rent a basement apartment at a cheaper price for doing any of those duties around their house, for their children or at their businesses. And no one would do it,they only wanted money. What's the world come to,everything is based on money. It's a shame.I can't even barter with anyone, because I have to pay my landlady money,so she can pay the bank. The utility, car insurance companies, grocery stores will only take cash or a credit card and you have to make good money to have a credit card, because that's another bill you have to pay.lol.Oh my,God is probably thinking, what has happened to this world I have created?Lol

The bartering service was such a wonderful thing that NY State decided it was loosing money and taxed it. Now even if you barter, you still have to charge tax to the person you barter from. So bartering just went by the wayside. Or did it just go underground. . .?

In economics, barter system refers to exchange of goods and services. In the absence of money in olden days, people use to sell the cattle for wheat vice versa, biscuirts for butter, likewise. That is came to be known as barter system.
