We came home late last night and found our little dog has a rash all over his body, it is better today, but we cannot figure out what it is, it itches him really bad and he is licking and chewing, I so not know what to do to relieve his itching. We do not have an emergency vet near where we live, and the soonest i can get him there is tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help him for tonight? I just cannot figure out what he got into, it doesn't look like poison ivy or oak or anything like that , We have these huge white mushrooms in our yard, and I was wondering if he could have gotten hold of one of them and made himself sick.

My mom's dog had the same problem once. She used baby dipar rash cream. I'm not sure what brand but I don't think it matters. It may sound strange, but it actually worked. lol

Thank you for the idea, I do not know if I have any around the house but I am going to look right now.

Benadryl is safe to give to dogs, but you need to call the vet for proper dosage for his weight. It could be something in the grass, stung by a bee, or check him good for fleas. One of my dogs gets flea dermatitis(flea allergy). He turns bright red and scratches non stop with one bite from a flea. You could give your dog an oatmeal bath, that may help a little bit as well. Hope he feels better!

it could have been anything new that caused the rash. did he get any vaccinations recently? i have heard of dogs having allergic reactions to vaccines. I would suggest an e-collar until the rash goes down so he doesn't irritate it further or cause any bleeding.
