Dealing with bullies on the school bus.

When my brother was in high school he stood up for a girl on his school bus that was getting bullied by another kid. My brother ended up with a black eye. He never told us what happened to the bully. It was very upsetting. I was always thankful that he was capable of defending himself. I have heard horror stories of kids getting beat up worse by someone on a bus, while the adults on board stood by and ignored it all.
I've always wondered if the girl that he defended could have taken care of herself, if my brother hadn't been there.
But, the thought occurs to me, that not every kid is equipped to handle themselves in that kind of situation.
How can you help protect your child from bullies on the bus? Would you teach them self defense moves? Give them a cell phone so that they could call the police to report the attacker?

I am a buss driver and I personally would never allow that to happen! I write my kids up just for teasing and bulling other kids. I move them both one to the front one to the back. Then my boss and the school principal decide what to do about it. I was one of those kids that got picked on as a child and I will never be gotten away with on my bus! If your brothers bus driver sat by and let all of that happen she/he should be written up.
Some times things do happen just because a buss is not a vehicle that you can just stop anywhere. It may happen but the driver should pull over as soon as safely possible and seperate the kids. Move one to the front and one to the back.
If your child tells you that they are having problems with another student tell the buss driver or if they don't seem to care go to the school principal and tell them. Tell them you want this other student kept away from your child. there are more than 20 seats on a buss they can keep them seperated!!

I'm sure you do! This was way back in the day though. I've never figured out what the other bus driver was doing during the entire incident. Some people don't take their job as seriously as you do. Please keep up what you're doing. Many parents and children depend on you.
