I've found that doing it yourself is a huge money saver. We've managed to save a lot of money by cooking at home (and not eating out)and cutting out processed foods to the extent possible- you can make your own jams, bread, pickles and so on; it really saves a lot of money and is probably healthier. And if you have a sewing machine you can save a on on clothes. These are about the biggest money savers I've found.

Unfortunately I don't have the energy (with a chronic illness) to take the time to prepare things like that. And my ability to sew is pretty pathetic.

I do clip coupons and watch for specials. I find a lot of better grocery deals at my local pharmacy. Stuff like paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, laundry cleaning supplies, and some food items like cookies and fruit chew snacks. Unfortunately, if I buy something like Corn Pops in bulk, the rest of the family go nuts and finish the box in two days. Sometimes it's better to buy a smaller box. Sometimes we go to the Salvation Army or second hand clothing stores for the kids' clothes but my 14 year old has to be trendy. She'll get stuff like sports shorts and t-shirts or pyjama bottoms there, but prefers the current style in jeans and tops. Fortunately the store she likes to shop at always as "2 fors". If she doesn't want 2 then we get one for me. :) I get a lot of coupons but they are either for products I don't usually get or even with the coupon another brand is cheaper. I don't go to garage sales because the kids want toys they don't need and are too old for, and I go crazy when I see books. I'm better off staying at home and just not buying anything at all.

.. hi there, I am a mommy too, and I always make sure to make a list before going to the grocery store, that way, I believe I can save in not buying unwanted things. My family loves cooked meals at home, and I am happy with that because we can save so much rather than ordering foods or eating out... I know you can get a lot of helpful here in myLot regarding your problem.. have a great day!
