Sponsoring a Child

Most of us have seen the commercials about sponsoring a child from overseas to help pay for their living expenses, education, clothes, etc. While I believe this a great idea, I'm apprehensive about getting involved as I've heard there are so many scams going on in this such industry. Can anyone help me find a great, honest, trustworthy organization that will assist me in sponsoring a child from overseas without scamming me?
