Tomatoes and Lettuce

Two of my favorite fresh garden vegetables are lettuce and tomatoes. I haven't had a garden since I moved into this house in 2003. This year, my neighbor gave me two tomato plants. I've been fertilizing them and they are planted out in my front yard in a tire where they are exposed to plenty of sun. They are flowering like crazy. Today I tied them as they are getting tall and heavy. Then I thought...hmmm...why not? I bought myself a packet of lettuce seeds (Grandrapids variety) and planted them right in the soil around the bottoms of the tomato plants. Gardening in the suburbs... for gardening junkies who gotta have it. LOL.

LOL—sounds like a plan- I hope that your blossoms turn into beautiful tasty tomatoes and your lettuce grows- I am not one for lettuce in the garden- We plant it each year but it doesn’t taste the same as store boughten lettuce- My favorite thing in my garden is the tomatoes- followed by cucumbers and then green beans- We even planted cantaloupes this year to see how they do- We have a very large garden- Peppers (green, sweet and hot), beans, radishes, lettuce, tomatoes (both cherry and regular), zucchini, squash, cantaloupes, carrots, beets (YUK)…. I think that is all- I can’t wait for the things to start growing!
