Can a cat catch illness from eating wild birds?

Our neighbor's cat caught a bird outside today. She does this all the time, and doesn't seem to be affected by it. It's sad, because I love birds. But, she's a cat, so she does what she wants! I'm worried though that the neighbor cat will pick up something contagious from the local birds. Do you think this could happen? Do you think it's possible for cats can catch diseases from birds?

Yes it is possible, but there aren't many infected birds around so don't worry. As for cat catching birds it is not considered violence if they eat birds because it is instinct, as for man he has the power to choose between violence and nonviolence.

I used to have an outside cat years ago and almost every day she would bring something home whether it was a bird, or a huge mole. She never got sick from any of them at all.

Maybe. But it's not a big percentage. Because some infectious disease of birds can't infect between cats. They are different animal. And have different attruibute. Do you thing so?

Depends on the bird... maybe some protozoans or that bird disease but it must be a migratory bird to spread that disease. Scientist said that felines can catch the bird disease. If it was not a migratory bird you should not worry.
