Do you add salt/sugar to your fruits/vegetables?

Some people, like my boyfriend, and mom, eat watermelon with salt. Cantaloupe too. I think it's disgusting. I like it plain. The only thing I add salt to is cucumbers. Sugar on strawberries is good too, but I usually don't add it unless the strawberry is not sweet at all. I don't add sugar to cereal either. Do you add anything to your fruits or veggies?

i put salt only to fruits that would just enhance its flavor. adding salt to watermelon makes it juicier. also to pineapples. on the other hand, i only add sugar to fruit shakes. when i steam my veggies i put just a pinch of sugar in it. it will make the vegetables crisp and fresh tasting.

I totally agree. I also put salt on watermelon and pineapple. And love fruit shakes! Have you tried adding apple vinegar to your veggies? I think some people say it's nice but i haven't really tried it.

Hi there CRN. I usually eat my fruits natural and my vegetables as well. If i am cooking them i will most likely add some salt or other things to the vegetables. The only fruits that i sometimes (but not always) add sugar are strawberries because it gives them a nice taste.

I am of the openion that neither the salt nor the sugar should be added on fruits and vegetable because it spoil the original taste .we should take the natural thing in original taste.

Nope I havent ever heard of that ,it doesnt appeal to me either lol but when I cook certain vegetables I add salt,to the greens water and most of the water that I boil the vegetables in,and when I cook carrots I add sugar too,a half teaspoon of sugar added to the water when you cook carrots and peas sweeten the veg,and gives them a better taste.

sometimes i'll dip green mango slices with salt or sugar but for cantalope i'll only mix it up into milk then strawberry dip into nutella or any hazelnut chocolote cream also apple and banana sometimes. it's great! the weird thing for my taste is only eating jackfruit dip into ketchup.

I was taught to put sugar on my grapefruit as a child, and was amazed at the option of putting salt on it when I was an adult. I now put salt on my grapefruit. I haven't tried pepper yet though ... I prefer chocolate with my strawberries (but with blueberries it is infinatly better :)) Cooked vegetables need a LITTLE salt and a LITTLE cooking to be satisfactory to my palette. Nothing is more disgusting than some limp, overcooked, oversalted zuchini mush some inexperienced or restaurant employee prepared for me. As for sugar, well, if I'm ordering candied yams I will expect it, otherwise, I better not detect its presence. With the food industries putting high fructose corn syrup in everything the last thing I need is more sugars.

I have never heard of salt on a watermelon. No thanks, I like it just the way it is. I eat all my veggies and fruits in their natural form. Although I'll ocassionally add some sugar to grapefruit. Oh, and of course a little salt on my potatoes. But that's it.

It is quite popular in India to either add salt or pepper with most fruits that people eat raw. I rather prefer to have fruits and vegetables with either salt or pepper. If the vegetable is cooked, then I would require salt in it, but the ones that I eat raw like tomato or cucumber etc. I do not prefer to have any salt or pepper in them. I do add sugar to cereals and milk, but never to fruits. Cheers! Ram

I add salt and spices to cooked vegetables but not in fruits. I think we can train our tastebuds to feel the natural sweetness in fruits and berries and at the same time avoid the sugar that is not very healthy for anyone.
