Sassing

Did your parents ever wash your mouth out with a bar of soap for sassing them, or for using a naughty word?my parents tried it with my brother once and he took a huge bite out of the soap! he was so obstinate.... I don't think they ever used that punishment on him again.
I wonder if it is a dangerous practice today with all the antibacterial chemicals and non soap things they put in hand cleaners now.
If I were a child today and my mother wanted to discipline me by washing my mouth out with soap I would make sure to grab the oatmeal honey variety:) that at least sounds appetizing.

oh yea.my mom did that once or twice.
she stopped when she heard some parents were causing their kids burns from lye soap.she decided it wasn't such a good idea.

No,my parents never did this with us and they always used to somjofy us instead of spanking and doing such practise and i did not want to use this method with my kid because it may be dangerous to their health which you have stated,yes ,i ageee with you in this topic.

we were instilled with respect for our elders very young lol. so i never sassed to the point of making my mother THAT mad!
however i know a woman who has a teenage boy that is so full of backtalk even i wanted to slap him one day!!
she had tried soap to no avail. but someone told her about a teaspoon full of tabasco sauce instead of soap! which does have more of a lasting affect im sure!
i dont know if she ever tried it, but i have heard that from a number of other places.
i imagine it works pretty well lol!

My parents did this all of the time, I think in this day and age though, it is considered to be child abuse.

I never had it done to me. But i would have never been like that in front of my parents. I probably would have got the strap. I know some who had it done though. My goddaughter just used to eat it, the little grot. But it was funny.

I once had my mouth washed out with soap for pouting and stomping my foot a lot. My mom liked to use the liquid soap, which foamed up a lot more than the bar soap did! My brother got it more often than I did, but he HATED it when she broke out the liquid soap.

No, I wasn't a very sassy child. I have done it once to my own child though. At about age seven she got down in the floor and started kicking and screaming because I told her she had to eat popcorn instead of chips. No way was I having that!
