What do you do as a parent when your child loses a tooth?
I know when I was growing up my parents use to always leave money under my pillow and would tell me that the tooth fairy left the money in exchange for my tooth.
My daughter actually lost her first tooth yesterday and we broke the regular tradition and did something different. We got her a really cute [Butterfly Charm Necklace] and wrote a note that says the fallowing:
"Thank you so much for the lovely tooth! I'm taking this tooth to a special place. In return I'm giving you this Butterfly Necklace. It represents your transformation into a young lady, just like a Caterpillar transforms into a beautiful Butterfly. Love, the Tooth Fairy."
I thought it was different and fun. Plus I know my daughter loves getting letters from Santa Clause, so I figured she would also like one from the tooth fairy.
So, how about you parents out there? What have you done, that is if you do anything at all.
I know some parents don't do stuff like this and some might even find it funny.
I use to love things like this as a kid. It's nice to be able to fantasize about Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Kids love it!
And I think changing traditions around, could also be fun. I know my daughter isn't to fond of money, so I thought it be boring for her if I put money under the pillow. So I'm kind of glad I thought of something different. Although it took me and my husband a few minutes to think of something at the last minute, I think we did good.
Plus, I think it's special, it being her first tooth and all...

That is so cute!! Love your idea!! heehee. I am very uninventive! I just take the tooth from under the pillow and leave some money!! That is really cute though, maybe i'll try that next time. My 5 year old will be losing his second tooth soon so i'll give it a shot!

My daughter is only 4, going on 5 and she knows all about the tooth fairy, santa clause and even the easter bunny. She believes in them. Kids should have a fun imagination and I think its fun playing along with her. I loved it as a kid and I know she does as well.
I don't know what you mean by "Now-a-days kids are smart enough to understand everything. My kids never asked anything when they lost the tooth. So I did not have to tell them anything. I was too busy also aat that time."
Are you saying they new from day one that there wasn't any tooth fairy?
Sorry if I misunderstood you. :]

I usually don't do all the fantasizing bit...but I thought I'd do it when my 7 year old lost his tooth a couple of months back. I took the tooth and left a gift under his bed with a note (signed by the Tooth Fairy). He was quite pleased with his gift and I thought it was wonderful and thought I should be doing it again. That evening my son comes to me gives me a hug and says,'I know there's no such thing as the tooth fairy - you are my tooth fairy - I recognized your handwriting!'. I guess the tooth fairy should have typed out her letter:P
