Internet Explorer Problems..

I have to admit that I like Internet Explorer, but since I've downloaded the latest (7 with tabs) from time to time it freezes and crashes. I like the browser because I have mcaffee siteadvisor running on it too - which keeps the nasties at bay, but surely Microsoft has had enough time to sort out the bugs in this browser. Anybody else having problems with it? I have downloaded safari and Firefox, and they work OK but these do not support my Mcaffee site advisor, so I always keep coming back to IE for security reasons and I've got to know it having used all versions for the last 10 years or so.

I have long since reverted to IE6, because of the crashing problem with IE7. The easiest way to revert to IE6 is to use System Restore. If you try add/remove programs, you wind up with a sort of hybrid. The familiar IE6 panel comes back, and the tabs look different, but you still have IE7's icons, and tabs?! Then come to find out you haven't fixed the problem; your new hybrid crashes just like IE7. And if you try using System Restore AFTER rolling back, Internet Explorer is crippled completely. By the way, there is a version of SiteAdvisor for Firefox too. The button sits on the bottom-right in FF, as opposed to the upper-right in IE. LinkScanner works with Firefox also. Between these two, you have guidance as to both a site's legitimacy (SiteAdvisor), and it's safety (LinkScanner). SiteAdvisor can only tell you whether a site was infected the last time it was tested; LinkScanner scans as you surf. ;)

Thanks for posting. The problem with doing a system restore is that I will have to restore back quite a lot as I have added and unistalled many programs and been using IE7 since it first came available. I will probably try getting myself acclimatised to firefox and see how that goes.

I have just started using Firefox again and discovered that McAfee site advisor will run on it. I had to fiddle about with the SSL certificate thingy to get it work properly, and it's a bit different to IE, but I'm going to persevere and try and get used to it :-)

Have you downloaded the updates for it? At first I had those same issues. But then they did work out some of the bugs and it downloaded updates for Windows and IE that i didn't have those problems anymore. That...and my computer down stairs has a memory issue. So it is understandable when that one locks up from time to time while I am on the internet. See if there are any updates for Windows or IE...that might help. :) Good luck!

Yeh, I have done all the updates for it too, and the same problem occurs. Getting used to Firefox now, slowly but surely. Been working all afternoon with it and not a problem with crashing at all.

lots of people i know are having trouble with some cant use it at all best would be to reinstall again see if it helps or go back to the one you had before til they fix it thats if thats whats wrong we have no hassles at all with 7 works well no different i dont reckon than the other plus your using mcaffee which is a bug its self i would not reckon mend anyone to use that for virus protection cause they give out infections to load of computer a screw them over

Thanks for sharing. I have never noticed that Mcaffee has given me any problems. In fact it has trapped a few worms and viruses when they tried to get on to my machine. :-)

I also upgraded to IE7 but although I like its features and look I still find Mozilla firefox faster and easier. But my brother uses IE 7 exclusively, I suppose you need to get used to it.

Thanks for posting, I think I will get used to using Firefox more and see how I get on with it. You would think that MS would be aware of these problems with IE7 - but we are probably testing it out for them..

Thanks for posting. What I shall do I think is to start using Firefox again and try and get used to it. What I have found today with IE is that the windows freeze as if it's going to crash and then loads OK.. Which is a bit of a nuisance.
