Their is an energy bill before the Senate that has a provision to raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE)Standards to 35 miles a gallon by 2020. This would require automobile manufacturers to design cars and trucks to meet this fuel economy standards. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida is proposing that the standards be raised to 40 miles a gallon. THE TECHNOLOGY IS ALREADY HERE! Jay Leno, comedian, car collector and host of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, has a car from the early 1900's that is a hybrid and it gets 50 miles a gallon! Since the bill may be discussed today, call your U.S. Senators and ask them to support Senator Bill Nelson's effort to raise the CAFE standards to 40 miles a gallon.

Amen! The problem with CAFE is that it is still driven by averages. You'll have a super duper econo car with 90mpg then a fleet of Escolades getting 12.
There needs to be a minimum MPG per new vehicle as well.

The goal of Senator Bill Nelson's (there are two Senator Nelson's) measure is to have ALL new cars and trucks be able to achieve 40 miles per gallon by 2020.
