Does anyone have any opinions on new computers? I'm looking to get a new one, and have no idea what is good these days.

to those who response to your discussion on choosing a costume build, they are all right for this you can find a good spec or a high-end spec for your pc's. but it would be better if you read a lot that's help so you can have a idea on how your pc will work for you.

Well in order to really give you solid advice, we need to know what you plan to do with the computer. Is it for web surfing, typing, music, television, or gaming? It would also help if you were to tell us your budget, preferably in American dollars. With no information the best I can tell you is to look for a computer with either an AMD Athlon64 or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 1GB of RAM. Those are the minimums for any modern computer. Avoid Intel Celeron processors since they are crap. If you can find one, get a computer with Windows XP instead of Vista. I custom build computers and I can assure you they are higher quality, and the tech support you get from a system builder is far superior to what you'll get from companies like Dell or HP. Check Consumer reports and you'll see.

The most powerful machine you could ever get would be a custom-built one, as you don't have to skimp on anything you don't want to. However, you will often be spending more money than if you were to buy a mass-manufactured unit, especially if you have someone else assemble your custom machine for you. I wouldn't recommend buying anything with Windows Vista, at least not until it's had time to mature, and third-party software companies have had time to make Vista-ready versions of their software. Dell still offers a few machines with XP, but you might want to get one before the new year. I understand M$ plans to pull it from the market then, despite all the snarling and yapping against Vista (people are calling it Me II).

I prefer a custom made, coz it fit on my budget and I can get all the hardware I wanted to put inside my PC. Try this spec AMD Athlon 64 x2 3.0 Ghz, 2Gb, NVidia 590 SLI, DDR2 Ram, Stndrd Dual Nvidia GeForce 8800, 250 GB Sata HDD, Optical Drives (Blu-ray and DVD writer), Stndrd Keyboard and Mouse, 17" LCD monitor, a good PSU. This is my basic set-up if I will buy a new one...

Custom build are the best, don't buy brand names computers. Go to a good store near you and tell the guys how you want your computer and they'll make one for you. At least in my Country it is as easy as that. My brother has a computer store.
