Does your child know what to do if they're lost in the mall?

My daughter is just now getting to the age, where we might want to take her out to more public places like the mall or resteraunts. But, I've always worried that she won't know what to do if we're seperated in a crowd. How would I find her? How would she know what to do to locate me? Please tell me how you handle your children in public places so that they don't get lost? What do you tell a child to do, in case she gets lost in public?

I never let their hands go. My youngest is now 8 and she still hold mine or her father's hand. I keep my eye on them at all times too. Then since preschool I have taught them to go to an officer for help but never leave the store not even with an officer. Lossing them has always been a huge fear of mine. Thank God it's never happend.

This website might help. Another idea is to put a wristband with your phone number (preferably cell), and your first name on it. I have 4 kids, and when we go to the amusement parks we do this www.tattosswithapurpose.com

i don't have a child yet but i think i will adopt the technique that my husband's family is doing whenever we go out with his niece. the little girl, who is now 5 can already answer basic questions like mother, father's name. so it is easy for her to answer when being asked. then inside her pocket, we also put a paper with his dad's contact number. he writes his cellphone as well as landline number. so in case the kid gets lost and start to cry she can just give the note to whoever finds her. another tip is to use a bracelet tag, which serves both as accessory and 'dog tag' for her.
