I picked up the second and revised edition of this book while waiting for a plane last week, and have found it absorbing reading. Only in a couple of places did I find that the information was just too much. Overall, this is the most interesting non-fiction book I've read in a long time, primarily because it's imaginative in its approach to life and statistics.

No, this doesn't sound like the same book. The matters discussed in Freakonomics are mostly related to the US itself, not to what it can do to other countries.

I don't know whose responses or comments you've come across, but Freakonomics is anything but a boring book. It's been a bestseller since it first came out, and there's a blog associated with it as well. http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/ Check that out: it might give you a better idea of what it's all about. Sometimes you have to ignore negative comments and try things out for yourself!

That's a pity. Still I guess it isn't everyone's type of book. Tell your husband it really is worth reading...if you've still got it lying around the house!

I'm not sure how well you can comment on the book if you haven't read it. How can you tell if their arguments don't make sense if you don't know what the arguments are. And it's not theory, in fact: the arguments are all based on actual statistics.
