I always loved horses and ponies were just little horses as far as I was concerned. I looked for horses wherever I could when I was growing up. I read books about them, watched shows with horses in them. That was mostly old Westerns or Disney sometimes. At fairs, there was usually a pony ride. I tried to always get on those and then when I had my daughter, I got her on the pony rides at the fair too. And now, I have three grandsons and I try to get them on the pony ride at the fair too. We all love it and get pictures. Pony rides are such perfect photo opportunities!

A birthday girl enjoying a pony ride - pony ride for a birthday girl
I was lucky enough to have a pony of my own growing up. One year for our school fair, I provided my pony for other kids to ride. It was fun! We have our own horses and have for over 10 years. Each of our kids had their own horse, but one by one, they outgrew the interest in having a horse. You're right about pony rides being fun and a great photo opportunity! I've added a cute photo I found of a birthday girl enjoying a pony ride. She looks thrilled!

When I was in Denmark as a child, we had pony rides at Lego Land. I have a picture of myself riding a pony, somewhere. I need to find that picture when I get home from AZ, scan it (get my scanner working) and upload that pic to MyLot.

You just described me sugar. I love horses. Got excited as a child, live by them now, and still get excited from them. They are awesome creatures.

The life of a Fair Pony is just sad, they walk in circles all day with kids on their backs. How sad. I don't allow my child to ride them. It only adds to their sad existence. I with it was outlawed. Many areas have outlawed this. I pray it becomes nationwide.

You sound just like me! I was horse crazy from as far back as I can remember. I don't have kids or grandkids & I never see pony rides anymore - considering what I've since learned about the ones that used to be here, probably just as well.

I do very well remember those rides. We would find them in the parks when I was around 8 or 9 years old and we lived in Californis. There was a man that would lead his pony around the residentual area and take pictures of kids on his pony wiht the chaps and vest with a cowboy hat. i still have mine and my brother form about 55 years ago. We sure were cute. I haven't seen one of those for years.
