my little furball past away this morning and i am really upset. hubby laughs at me cause i get so attatched to them. i get them for the kids but yet i end up loving them and caring for them. he tells me they are just rodents and they are only suppose to last 3 years tops so dont get upset. i cant help it though. they are so sweet and soft. after 3 years they are part of the family. i told him i wanted to get the kids a longer lasting pet this time. i have burried 5 hamsters so far. i have 2 kids and each kid gets there own. i dont want to bury another one. i get to upset about it. it is not fair that they dont live longer. i miss hearing her wheel turn and looking over at her scratching on the glass wanting to be picked up. she usualy sits in my lap while i am on the pc and sleeps. i know i sound funny 31 years old and missing a hamster but i do.

I understand your feelings. My hamster has just passed away because of old age a few weeks ago and I was very upset. I miss the sound of Snuffy biting on the cage bars, I miss the sound of the hamster wheel squeaking.. Sigh.
All that I know is we, as hamster owners, have given them a good life already. So don't cry when they go. You can always get another one.

Awww. So sorry to hear about your hamster. My kids had several but our favorite was Peaches. She lived the longest, about 8 years. She ended up with grey hair from old age!
I hope you find another pet that is perfect for your family!

I think your story is sweet. When I was younger I had hamsters and they do not live long at all. I had one that lived almost four years and he was in good health and was well taken care of. He was so smart that he would climb on his water bottle and actually turn the lid of the cage till it opened. I bought him a ball to run around the floor in. My mom had a palmeranian dog which is small and the two them would play for hours on the floor. I too get very attached to animals very fast. My daughter wanted a rabit and I bought her a norwegian dwarf rabit. He is so cute. i was told that he should live a good ten to fifteen years.
