What is the worst pain you have experienced? How did it come about?

Is the memory of it painful or perhaps it would be better to say the memory is frightful? If you remember it, can you re-experience the pain? all the best urban

Hi Urban. I haven't responded to anything on myLot for a few weeks because I've been very busy and I've been away a lot. When I saw this discussion, I felt compelled to reply. I guess a lot of women would say childbirth is the worst pain experienced, although this is quickly forgotten with the joys associated with it. Even though I had five BIG babies, up to 13 pounds in weight, I couldn't say it was overly painful. The doctor said it was easier for me than for most women having five pounders. I think a lot of men would say pain from kidney stones would be their worst pain. This is considered in the medical profession to be the male equivalent of childbirth pain. I firmly believe the worst pain of all is mental and emotional pain. This cannot compare with physical pain for its devastating effect over long periods of time, even a lifetime. The worst pain I've ever experienced was from mental and emotional abuse over a number of years - which had many more years of after effects. That pain was constant. NOW I can look back on it and be thankful for it, because it helped to make me what I am today, but it was devastating for many years and affected my whole personality. I have never experienced the loss of a child, but I would imagine that would be the biggest pain of all, especially if that loss was the result of a brutal attack, which happens so often nowadays. I really feel for parents who have to endure such tragedies. Great discussion. I'm sure there will be many varying opinions.

The pain I can most remember has happened twice: an abscess formed on the gum above a front tooth, and it was like someone hammering a nail into the area. I had it fixed years ago, but it's come back again just as bad.

I used to get SEVERE menstrual cramps. So bad that I would puke. I seriously felt like I was going to die every month. I've since taken care of it and so far, it's working well. I hope to NEVER re-experience that again. Each month was enough pain for a lifetime.

The worst pain that I experienced was emotional. My fiancee cheated on me and that broke my heart because I loved him. I felt a sharp pain in my heart and yes, when I think of those moments I still get the pang. I was unfortunate enough to experience the loss of someone close and that is yet another pain that somehow can always be relived especially when you think of that moment when you learnt that some dear to you has passed away. What about you? Best wishes, Magdalena

Sorry Simon, did not realize you only meant physical pain only after I posted. Well, as far as physical pain goes I will have to go with tooth ache - as a kid I loved caramels and even though my mom would make me brush my teeth before sleeping I would hide caramels in my pijama pockets and eat them under the blanket; you can imagine the rest. Oh, well, I guess all that pain served me right and that I was lucky they were only my milk teeth ;)!

Well I would say the worst pain that I have ever had was when I woke up after I had my first ceasarian. No one told me about the after pain. The pain was very bad that even a slight coughing made it worse.

The worst physical pain was getting my tongue pierced. The piercing itself hurt less than I thought, but the week following, my tongue was swollen and if I talked, ate, or otherwise moved my tongue, my whole head throbbed in pain. But I don't regret it. The worst mental and physical anguish was losing my mom at 15 and being the person my younger siblings looked to for emotional support, schooling, clothing, and feeding. Lots of stress piled on the loss of the most important person of my life at that time... never want to experience that again.

I am blessed for not having any such extraordinary physical pain so far. One apcess on my but, a swelled gum due to a chip of chicken bone penetrating between the gum and a tooth in the right side of the mouth, These two are the major issues happened to me. Both these mishaps occured more than two decades back. It was fiexed by a surgeon and a dentist respectively. I am always thankful to God for sparing me from any such physical agony. Thank you urban.

My very worst pain I ever experienced is whenmy migraine triggers and I can't stoop the pain even I took medicines already. Thats why as much as possible I don't like to stress coz when I got stress followed it my migraine will attack me. And It feels like I want to stroke my head on the wall.
