Right... can you stand eating plain bread? Please do not take this question literally for I do not mean to ask if you need to instead SIT while eating plain bread. Rather, the emphasis is more on "plain" than "stand". :P Theoretically, bread is all starch and sugar and if you slowly chew a piece in your mouth, you can ultimately taste the sweetness. So on this count, you do not really need to apply anything on the bread. Certainly jam or butter, honey or squashed berries, etc are really just pretty extras. If you sandwich ham or lettuce between 2 slices of bread, that's extra too. Yet even though I know bread is really sweet on its own, I never take it plain (when I eat it occasionally). I like to have it with ham, butter and cheese perhaps. And with egg. ;-) What about you? Can you stand eating plain bread? Or must you have something to go with it? Do share your thoughts. ;-)

Stop this dude! I just came back from the kitchen with a slice of plain wheat bread. I am serious about it. I eat plain bread a lot late at night. Why I have no idea as I taste nothing because I take like 3 bites and it's gone. This is strange as this came up just as I was eating a slice. Unreal totally unreal. It's almost scary to a point. Now a lot of times during the day I will toast the bread and add butter, sugar, and some cinnamon sprinkled on it for a quick sweet snack. That's tasty to my pallate. Thanks now don't start a topic on full meals please. I am just about full. HAHAHAHA!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I usually don't have it plain but every once in awhile I like it that way. And its really strange what I do with it. Are you ready for this? I take the crust off and then I flatten the bread. Then I roll it up into a ball and eat it. I have no idea why I do this either.

Yes, I really do that. It makes the bread kind of doughy tasting. I also like to flatten the bread when I have a ham sandwich. I flatten it then roll it up. I guess I am just really weird.

I like to eat bread plain if it is Greek bread fresh from the oven. Naan or Indian bread is also lovely, just heated up and gobbled fresh from the hot coals lol Normal English sliced bread definitely needs some sorting out and that is where life can get pretty interesting lol.I love brown granary bread with smoked salmon, chopped chives and creme fraiche. I know it's a bit of a luxury that I only get now and then when I have time to go down to Sainsbury's lol.

you can make fresh bread! get a bread machine, throw your ingredients in, and then let the machine do the rest! I used to have one of those things, and it is sooo cool, but expensive. You can buy the premixed ingredients at the store and just add water! the aroma is wonderful!

I love to eat fresh warm bread plain! The taste and the texture are wonderful and the smell is so delicious! MMM Oh now I want some fresh bread! lol See what you do to me wizzy? I am half convinced you have found out all my weaknesses and are trying to torture poor little old me! Even if bread is not still warm I can eat it on its own but I do love it with butter, ham, salad or even peanut butter - in fact especially with peanut butter! Ok have to go - need to get a peanut butter sandwich.......................................................xxxx

Yah, there is this brand of bread here in the Philippines (named Gardenia) that tastes delicious even if there's no filling in it. Sometimes, we do have to make do with what we have (due to budget constraints) such that even if there's no strawberry jam or mayonnaise around, we have no choice but to eat plain bread instead. Now I have become hungry...

Exactly, the line is the same in Gardenia's packaging here in the Philippines. I admit Gardenia Raisins Bread is better than the plain one LOL.

Yup, we have that too in Malaysia and I prefer it to any other brand too~! I don't know how the slogan goes back there, but over here it goes.. "It's so good you can even eat it on its own~!!" Soo yeah, I do eat it on it's own sometimes~! ;D

Bread is the food of both rich and poor. The poorman has to eat it palin while rich will have it with varieties of extras. I remember my school days, those days were very hard, some times I used to dip the plain bread in water and eat it to make my day.

I love eating plain bread! It never fails every time I get a fresh piece of bread and take a bit I get the hiccups. The yeast in it, by eating it by itself, whether I sit or stand. LOL (sorry couldn't help myself) I get the hiccups. I really do love just eating bread by itself. Especially if I make fresh homemade bread! Yummy, you have made me hungry.

I am actually one of those people that will just grab a slice of bread and eat it plain. Especially when it is home made from scratch. mmm mmm good! lol Even when I do make a sandwich with my bread I still do not put anything extra besides the meat and cheese.

I love eating plain bread and often prefer it this way. The ultimately best is when you have baked a loaf of bread and it has just come out of the oven. Just leave it for a few minutes to chill and then cut it while it is piping hot. I put nothing on it, I just first eat the crusty parts and then then soft warm piece in the middle. This is the best. Alternatively, as the bread comes out of the oven at the shop you buy a loaf and just break it off and eat it while driving home. My step children and I used to do that. It was great. As their mom and I used to fetch them from school we would stop at the local spar and the bread would have just come out of the oven, we would buy a loaf and a 2 litre coke and then on the way home we would chow down the bread. It was such great bonding moments for us and they still talk about those days today. So yes, Just plain bread is simply the best. The way mother nature intended it to be. YUMMY :)!

Hahaha! It took me a while to figure out the second meaning of your sentence, the literal one you explained on your post. :D I was like "What? Sit?" Hahaha! Well, back on subject, I love plain bread. I like the taste of the bread, and anything that goes with it steals that taste. Of course I like eating bread with different things, but I can also enjoy that plain bread taste pretty much! Cheers!

It is funny you ask this because I noticed over the years that different children that I would watch would ask me for a slice of bread with nothing on it and a drink of water for lunch . I was horrified the first time I was asked this by one of the children but over the years have come across many children who truely want this and even the parents of the children . I myself would never be able to have a piece of bread with nothing at all on it . I would find it hard to swallow and find it dry without anything to add flavor to it lol

When I was a kid I used to love to eat the end of the loaf with butter. Back then we did not have wheat bread. Now there are a lot of varieties of wheat bread which is healthier. I like to put butter on it. I also like peanut butter and jelly or bacon lettuce and tomato.

Hi lordwarwizard!(",) I can stand and sit as well just eating plain bread.heheh. Honestly, I am not used eating bread with butter or anything on it. I can eat the whole french bread alone just like the bread the person is eating in the picture that you placed along with this discussion.(",)

I actually don't eat bread at all. For a couple of the reasons you name. Bread is a starch which isn't good for me. I avoid starchy foods as much as I possibly can. If I want a sandwich I use lettuce in place of bread or something similar.
