Hiking is something I'd love to try someday. That's if I can get away from dad. HAHAHA!! It's great to get away from computers for a little bit and get some fresh air! But you don’t have to travel all the way to Arizona if you want to go hiking. There’s probably a great trail somewhere close to you. Trail Database can help you find a good location to take a hike. Not only does it cover the United States, it covers the entire world. You’ll find stories and pictures of the trails. And if you’re a newbie, don’t forget to read about the equipment you’ll need. There are also safety tips. Check this site out if you are interested in hiking.

to hike: to move, pull, or raise with a sudden motion
to walk: to move along on foot, advance by steps, to come or go easily or readily
There's the difference.

You don't even need to follow a trail to hike. Hiking is not just walking along paths. I hike thru open fields and woods with no paths but never walk in the same place I've already been. If you find a deer trail, those can be hiked on as well as long as you don't go breaking all the branches in your way and leaving litter behind. Hence the saying... Take only memories, leave only footprints behind.

Bet that sucks having asthma. My hubby has it as well and can't do some of the things he so enjoyed b4 he developed it. We go hiking or bike riding now and he has to stop and rest alot and sometimes he can't do those things at all. Used to be we would go for hours without stopping.

I am only used to little hikes. Ones that don't go uphill.
This site is very nice, attractive & well set out.
There is plenty of Aussie info on walking trails.
There are at least two walking trails near where I live. One is through a small natioinal park. I can walk/hike that distance. There are lots of koalas too.

I'd love to be on one of those trails in Aussie country right about now. I am not in the best of moods and a long walk along a nature trail is called for. I am going to try and get out soon for a walk. Anyhow thanks for the response and happy walking/hiking. LOL

That is an excellent site for everyone to check out. I love it. I'm lucky because there are several different wildlife refuges within about 10-20 miles of where I am, and they have lots of trails to follow. One of them even has guided walks as well. It's so cool to be walking along a trail and look up to see three baby golden eagles peeking over the edge of the nest at you, and mama or daddy is on the next branch. They are so beautiful. The only thing I don't like seeing is the trees full of the vultures. Lordy are they UGLY! LOL

I've been fortunate enough not to see a Vulture up close yet. Now I live in a suburb of Minneapolis. It's a good sized city yet I have seen Bald Eagles flying over my house. They are a work of art and very beautiful. Glad that you liked the site. Happy hiking/walking. Hahaha!

Well if you don't get the chance to, there are alternatives that I do myself. Walk around the house after every post on myLot. Easy as that, your daily exercise can now be completed without much hassle and your fingers to won't be strained from typing too much!

Is there mountainous or rough terrain in Baguio? When I think of the Philippines I don't think of hiking for some reason. Hahaha!!

I haven't gone on a true "hike" for a multitude of years.
Hahaha. With my smoking and asthma a walk around the
neighborhood with my Buster is a "hike" to me. HAHAHA!!

My family loves to hike- We live right by a State Park in NY- and within 25 miles of another- We spend a lot of time at both- Stony Brook (Dansville) and Letchworth (Mt. Morris)- the trails here are amazing- You can venture out on the clearly marked trails to places like Mary Jemison statue and houses- to a goldfish pond- or just out to hike- Also when you want to cool down we hike the water trail- You walk along side the Crick and the Falls- It’s beautiful and a lot cooler- We even jump in the water from time to time at the Falls- We love to hike! Thanks for the website- Give us some new places to go and check out!

I went hiking quite a few times with a youth project at my school. (one of the times we spent 3 days walking around the peak district and it's the most wonderful place to see if you love the nature)
None of the others seemed to really enjoy which is a shame.
Thanks for the link :)
Kudos!

I would also love to go hiking and trekking. There is an organization here in our City that trains novice hikers or trekkers like me. I also look forward to it. They plan the activities throughout the year. I also want to try caving. But one thing at a time. he he he! Happy trekking Grandpa Bob!

I have been sort of hiking before. Nothing serious, but just some woodsy stuff. I liked it, but now with kids i'm scared because of all the stories I have heard about black bears snatching up kids! lol. Paranoid yes, but I feel safer not hanging out in the woods. I think it would be neat to go out with a GPS and walk around and see what you could find though.

I agree, some people don't even know what is near to them and pass certain landmarks in the car and take no notice where as if they were hiking they woudl see a lot more, I think it is nice to get away from the technology, switch your phone pff and go for a walk sometimes, hiing is a bit hardcore for me, but I do like to go for a walk on my own to clear my head.

Hiking is not hardcore. Theres the simple hiking of local parks etc. It's not always a hard exercise type of hike. I hike but it's more like a long hard walk. One can hike through a nature center. One can hike through a State Park or something along those lines. Someone can hike up and down a river trail. Hiking doesn't have to be hardcore.

Thanks for the information. I would like to do some serious hiking one day. I would like to go hiking out west but would need to get in much better shape to tackle some of those mountain trails..lol. I bet there are plenty of great trails in your state. I guess I would have to leave the computer at home...lol.
